About the role | Mō te tūranga:
Our Core Laboratory department is on the lookout for a passionate and capable Medical Laboratory Scientistto join our dynamic team in Wellington. This is a permanent, full-time position, working 80 hours per fortnight.
You will be willing to learn new skills, work well alone and as part of a team. Extremely well-organised, detail-oriented, and friendly with a strong focus on quality and customer service. The successful applicant must have a high degree of accuracy and be self-sufficient to excel in this role.
Key responsibilities include:
- Barcoding, receipting, and preparing specimens as they arrive at the laboratory.
- Entering patient and test details accurately into the system.
- Answering telephones and handling enquiries professionally.
- Work well under pressure and manage competing priorities.
- Demonstrate strong problem-solving skills and a high degree of accuracy.
- Be willing to learn new skills and adapt to changing procedures.
- Work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
- Maintain a friendly, customer-focused approach at all times.
- Show initiative and be self-sufficient in your day-to-day tasks.

To be successful in this role you will need:
- The ability to work in a methodical manner adhering to strict quality procedure guidelines
- A team focus with initiative, excellent interpersonal and communication skills, and possess the ability to work in a fast paced, deadline-oriented environment
- Excellent attention to detail, with good record keeping skills
- The ability to work independently, while in a supported role.
- Registration with the Medical Sciences Council of New Zealand and a current Annual Practicing Certificate as a Medical Laboratory Scientist
- A sound knowledge of laboratory operations including safety, operation of equipment and hands-on practical experience
- Eligibility to work in New Zealand.
