Axon Enterprise is an American public safety technology company founded in 1993 as TASER International to sell conducted energy weapons to police forces. It has since built a much broader business around body-worn cameras, in-car video, evidence management software and a growing set of artificial intelligence tools that draft reports, redact footage and transcribe interviews, sold to law enforcement, corrections and enterprise security customers as bundled subscriptions. Headquartered in Scottsdale, Arizona and listed on Nasdaq, the company now earns the majority of its revenue from recurring software and sensor plans rather than hardware sales.

Join Axon and be a Force for Good.

At Axon, we’re on a mission to Protect Life. We’re explorers, pursuing society’s most critical safety and justice issues with our ecosystem of devices and cloud software. Like our products, we work better together. We connect with candor and care, seeking out diverse perspectives from our customers, communities and each other.

Life at Axon is fast-paced, challenging and meaningful. Here, you’ll take ownership and drive real change. Constantly grow as you work hard for a mission that matters at a company where you matter.

Your Impact

As an Engineering Manager on the Connected Devices team, you will combine strong technical judgment, people leadership, and end-to-end ownership. You will lead a team responsible for mission-critical embedded software, maintain a clear architectural vision for your domain, develop engineers and technical leaders, drive predictable execution and operational excellence, and partner closely with Product and cross-functional teams to deliver measurable customer and business outcomes.

You will be accountable for the end-to-end success of your team’s area, including delivery, software quality, reliability, security, compliance, operational health, adoption, and long-term maintainability. You will make clear trade-offs across customer value, scope, schedule, technical debt, engineering cost, and long-term product health.

What You’ll Do

Work Location: This role is based out of our Ho Chi Minh City office and follows a hybrid schedule: onsite Tuesday through Friday and remote on Mondays, unless an approved accommodation applies. We place a high value on in-person collaboration and building a strong in-office culture.

Reports To:  Senior Engineering Manager / Engineering Director

Direct Reports: Roughly 6 to start, with expectations to scale to 8+ after 6 months

  • Own the end-to-end success of the team’s product area, including delivery, quality, reliability, security, compliance, operational health, adoption, cost, and customer outcomes.
  • Partner with Product Management to connect engineering priorities to customer and business outcomes and make clear trade-offs across scope, schedule, quality, technical debt, cost, and long-term maintainability.
  • Maintain a clear architectural vision for the team’s domain and ensure high-quality technical decisions through architecture, design, code, test, and operational reviews.
  • Own execution planning, capacity, staffing, dependencies, risks, and delivery commitments; proactively surface and manage trade-offs when plans change.
  • Manage escalations within the team’s domain and drive cross-team dependencies to resolution across Firmware, Hardware, Cloud, Mobile, QE, Security, Manufacturing, and Product.
  • Establish and monitor engineering and operational metrics and drive measurable improvements in delivery predictability, quality, reliability, and engineering effectiveness.
  • Drive strong operational practices, including release readiness, incident response, root-cause analysis, retrospectives, and proactive risk reduction.
  • Use AI-assisted engineering tools as part of your standard workflow and drive effective AI adoption across the team while maintaining a high quality bar.
  • Build and develop a high-performing team through hiring, onboarding, clear expectations, feedback, career development, performance management, and retention of top performers.
  • Create a culture of candor, accountability, continuous learning, and strong team engagement.

What You Bring

  • 3+ years of experience leading engineering teams, with strong people-management skills across hiring, coaching, career development, performance management, and retention.
  • 7+ years of experience in Firmware / Embedded Engineering or related systems software, with products shipped to customers.
  • Strong technical judgment in embedded or systems software, with the ability to evaluate architecture, implementation, quality, reliability, and engineering trade-offs.
  • 5+ years of professional software development experience in C/C++, Go, Python, and/or another systems programming language.
  • Demonstrated experience managing complex delivery, including planning, prioritization, staffing, dependencies, risk management, and recovery when commitments are at risk.
  • Strong product and business judgment, with the ability to make trade-offs across customer value, scope, schedule, technical quality, cost, and long-term maintainability.
  • Hands-on experience with AI-assisted engineering tools and workflows, with the ability to evaluate their effectiveness and drive adoption across an engineering team.
  • Nice to have experience leading teams where engineers own software quality end to end, including automated testing, design-for-testability, CI quality gates, defect prevention, release readiness, and production reliability.
