Role Description
We are seeking a Senior Systems Administrator to join our team with a strong focus on supporting Operational Technology (OT) and IT environments. This role combines hands-on systems administration with responsibility for the infrastructure, servers, networks and integrated platforms that support operational and industrial technology. The successful candidate will be comfortable working across the boundary between OT and enterprise IT, where system availability, security, reliability and controlled change are critical.
You will maintain, secure and optimise OT/IT infrastructure platforms, while providing core systems administration across Windows and Linux environments. Working closely with engineering, cybersecurity, infrastructure and project teams, you will support the integration of operational systems with enterprise technology and help deliver secure, reliable and supportable solutions. The role provides broad technical exposure across servers, networking, storage, virtualisation and OT infrastructure.
The Senior Systems Administrator is responsible for the day-to-day operation, support and maintenance of OT/IT infrastructure services. The role combines traditional systems administration responsibilities with hands-on support of operational technology environments, ensuring incidents and service requests are resolved effectively and within agreed service levels. It supports Windows, Linux, storage, network and OT platforms, while contributing to automation, process optimisation, cybersecurity, documentation and service improvement. Working collaboratively with cross-functional teams, the Senior Systems Administrator helps deliver secure, reliable and compliant services that meet business, customer and operational requirements.
Core Duties:
- Administer, support and maintain Operational Technology (OT) and associated IT infrastructure, systems and services.
- Provide systems administration across Windows and Linux server environments, including associated storage and virtualisation platforms.
- Support secure integration, connectivity and interoperability between OT and enterprise IT environments.
- Perform system upgrades, patching, backups, recovery and disaster recovery activities.
- Monitor system performance, capacity, availability and security compliance, and proactively address emerging issues.
- Investigate and resolve infrastructure, networking, operating system and application-related issues.
- Collaborate with engineering, cybersecurity, project teams and technical stakeholders to implement new solutions and improvements.
- Maintain accurate technical documentation, system configurations, support procedures and operational records.
- Contribute to cybersecurity, vulnerability management, patching and system hardening activities across OT and IT environments.
- Support project delivery through infrastructure design, implementation, testing, transition and commissioning activities.
About YOU
You are a proactive and technically capable systems administrator with experience or strong capability in OT/IT environments. You enjoy solving complex problems across infrastructure, operating systems and networks, and understand the additional availability, security and change-control considerations associated with operational technology.
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information technology or a related field, or equivalent relevant experience.
- Significant experience administering Windows or Linux Server environments, with capability across both considered highly desirable.
- Sound understanding of networking and cybersecurity principles, including patching, system hardening, access controls and vulnerability management.
- Experience with Cisco networking would be advantageous.
- Knowledge of system monitoring, backup, recovery, storage, virtualisation and high-availability solutions.
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills across infrastructure, networking, operating systems and integrated applications.
- Demonstrated ability to work within controlled environments and follow security, change, configuration and documentation requirements.
- Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to translate technical concepts into practical outcomes and build trusted working relationships.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a Baseline security clearance.
