Principal Data Engineer at BairesDev

We’re looking for a Principal Data Engineer who operates at the highest level of technical leadership in distributed data platform development. You have deep Scala expertise, you understand stream and batch processing infrastructure from the architecture down, and you’ve led the kind of cross-team, cross-cutting initiatives that define how data platforms evolve at scale. You’ll be shaping the technical foundation of open source data platform technology used by leading enterprises globally — with the organizational scope and authority to match your experience.

What You’ll Do:

• Define and own the architectural strategy for distributed data processing infrastructure across the engineering organization.
• Establish platform-wide standards for stream and batch processing design, JVM performance, and data pipeline reliability.
• Lead the most complex and strategically significant data platform initiatives from conception through delivery.
• Serve as the organizational authority on distributed data processing architecture and Apache ecosystem technologies.
• Influence engineering roadmap and product strategy as a senior technical voice across teams and leadership.
• Mentor staff and senior engineers, driving technical excellence and Apache ecosystem contribution across the organization.

Requirements

• 10+ years of experience in IT roles.
• 5+ years of experience with Scala as a primary language in distributed data platform or systems engineering.
• Expert knowledge of distributed systems architecture and large-scale stream and batch processing internals.
• Deep, production-proven experience with Apache ecosystem technologies and data processing frameworks.
• Strong JVM performance mastery applied to enterprise-scale data processing systems.
• Demonstrated organizational influence and technical leadership at a Principal or equivalent level.
• Advanced proficiency in English.

• Apache ecosystem contribution experience is a plus.
