Purpose of the role
To support the organisation, achieve its strategic objectives by the identification of business requirements and solutions that address business problems and opportunities.
Accountabilities
- Identification and analysis of business problems and client requirements that require change within the organisation.
- Development of business requirements that will address business problems and opportunities.
- Collaboration with stakeholders to ensure that proposed solutions meet their needs and expectations.
- Support the creation of business cases that justify investment in proposed solutions.
- Conduct feasibility studies to determine the viability of proposed solutions.
- Support the creation of reports on project progress to ensure proposed solutions are delivered on time and within budget.
- Creation of operational design and process design to ensure that proposed solutions are delivered within the agreed scope.
- Support to change management activities, including development of a traceability matrix to ensure proposed solutions are successfully implemented and embedded in the organisation.

Join us as a Lead Business Analyst at Barclays where you will spearhead the evolution of our API First digital strategy, driving innovation and operational excellence. You will lead the definition of business outcomes and translate complex customer, operational, regulatory, and technology needs into clear, actionable solutions that enable robust, scalable, and secure APIs.
To be successful in this role, you must have:
- Extensive experience leading business analysis across complex, multi-workstream software delivery programmes, from problem definition and discovery through implementation and outcome validation.
- Demonstrated ability to shape business analysis strategy, establish standards, and provide governance for requirements quality, traceability, and change control across large-scale initiatives.
- Advanced expertise in eliciting, analysing, challenging, and prioritising complex business, customer, regulatory, and operational requirements.
- Proven ability to translate strategic business objectives into clear product capabilities, end-to-end process designs, functional specifications, user stories, and measurable acceptance criteria.
- Strong leadership in facilitating senior stakeholder workshops, resolving ambiguity, managing conflicting priorities, and driving evidence-based decisions across business and technology teams.
- Exceptional stakeholder management and influencing skills, with the ability to communicate complex issues, options, dependencies, and recommendations to senior technical and non-technical audiences.
- Deep experience working with API and microservices-based architectures, including defining business capabilities, API requirements, data contracts, customer journeys, and integration dependencies.
- Strong understanding of banking and financial services, including customer, payment, servicing, operational, risk, control, compliance, and security considerations.
- Proven experience leading business analysis within Agile delivery models, partnering with Product Owners and engineering leads to shape roadmaps, manage backlogs, and maintain delivery readiness.
- Ability to define outcome measures, quality criteria, and business success metrics, and to use data and insight to support prioritisation and validate delivered value.
- Experience leading end-to-end business acceptance, including UAT strategy, scenario coverage, defect triage, operational readiness, and formal business sign-off.
- Strong risk and control mindset, with experience identifying delivery, operational, data, and regulatory risks and ensuring appropriate requirements, controls, and evidence are embedded in solutions.
- Advanced proficiency with requirements and collaboration tools such as JIRA and Confluence, with disciplined management of traceability, decisions, assumptions, dependencies, and scope changes.
- Strong leadership capabilities, with experience coaching and mentoring business analysts, reviewing analysis outputs, and raising capability and quality standards across distributed teams.
- Demonstrated ability to operate effectively in geographically distributed, cross-functional environments while maintaining accountability for analysis outcomes and delivery commitments.
Some other highly valued skills may include:
- CBAP - IIBA, Scrum Alliance Certified Scrum Product Owner (CSPO), SAFe Product Owner/Product Manager (POPM), or an equivalent business analysis or product certification.
- Experience shaping API-first digital products, developer experiences, external integrations, or platform capabilities within a large enterprise.
- Advanced data analysis skills, including SQL, data mapping, reconciliation, and the use of evidence to validate requirements and business outcomes.
- Knowledge of banking industry standards, regulations, and compliance requirements relevant to digital channels, APIs, payments, or corporate banking.
- Experience with business architecture techniques, capability modelling, value-stream mapping, operating-model design, and end-to-end process optimisation.
- Understanding of UX and service design principles, including customer journey mapping, prototyping, and accessibility considerations.
- Experience applying Lean, Six Sigma, or other process improvement methodologies to simplify customer and operational journeys.
- Familiarity with cloud technologies, event-driven architecture, API security, and non-functional requirements from a business and customer perspective.
- Understanding of testing strategies, quality engineering, test automation, and how acceptance criteria support continuous testing and delivery.
- Knowledge of change management, business implementation, communications, training, and adoption planning for organisational transformation.
- Experience defining product analytics, management information, dashboards, and benefit-realisation measures.
- Familiarity with DevOps and CI/CD practices, and their implications for incremental scope, release readiness, and business acceptance.
