BASF is a German chemical company headquartered in Ludwigshafen, producing chemicals, materials, industrial solutions, nutrition and care ingredients, and agricultural products such as crop protection and vegetable seeds. Founded in 1865 as Badische Anilin- und Soda-Fabrik, it is the largest chemical producer in the world; the site for this record resolves to BASF in the Netherlands, which has about 1,000 employees and its Benelux head office in Arnhem. Its global board lists SAP consultants and developers, AI platform and data engineers, finance and order-to-cash analysts, procurement and customs specialists, chemists, and interns in digitalisation and EHS.

Objectives of the position:

The ASEAN Finance Manager (Platform & Operations) leads local finance activities across Thailand, Indonesia, Vietnam and Singapore, ensuring effective statutory reporting, tax, treasury, audit, compliance and finance governance. The role provides functional leadership to country finance resources and coordinates closely with BPO providers and regional expert teams.

Because the platform operates with a lean team, this is a hands-on leadership role. The manager directly participates in Thailand operational finance activities, reviews the work of the Thailand Senior Accountant and remains accountable for significant judgments, escalations and stakeholder coordination.

Core responsibilities:

ASEAN Finance Leadership

  • Lead and coordinate local finance activities across the ASEAN platform.
  • Set priorities, clarify accountabilities and align country resources with regional and global requirements.
  • Ensure timely completion and appropriate review of statutory, tax, audit and compliance deliverables.
  • Drive consistent accounting, control and governance standards across countries while respecting local requirements.

Hands-on Thailand Finance Operations

  • Actively participate in Thailand month-end, statutory reporting, tax, audit, treasury and compliance activities.
  • Review key reconciliations, statutory schedules, tax filings and other deliverables prepared by the Senior Accountant or service providers.
  • Provide technical guidance on complex or non-routine accounting and tax matters.
  • Lead significant discussions with auditors, tax advisors, banks, authorities and internal stakeholders.
  • Step into operational activities when required to ensure business continuity and timely delivery.

Statutory Reporting, Audit & Compliance

  • Oversee statutory reporting and external audit activities across the covered countries.
  • Ensure local regulatory deliverables are completed accurately and on time.
  • Monitor relevant accounting and regulatory developments and coordinate impact assessment.
  • Track significant audit findings, compliance gaps and remediation actions.

Tax Governance

  • Oversee VAT or GST, withholding tax, corporate income tax and related local tax compliance.
  • Coordinate with regional tax teams and external tax advisors.
  • Review and escalate significant tax risks, uncertain positions and non-routine transactions.
  • Support transfer pricing and other required tax documentation and governance activities.

Treasury & Cash Management

  • Oversee local banking, cash visibility and treasury coordination.
  • Review cash forecasts and local liquidity requirements.
  • Coordinate with regional treasury on bank accounts, funding and controls.
  • Support resolution of significant banking and treasury matters.

BPO & Service Provider Governance

  • Govern outsourced finance services and define clear interfaces between local teams, BPO providers and regional functions.
  • Monitor service levels, quality, controls and unresolved issues.
  • Lead escalations and drive root-cause resolution and continuous improvement.
  • Ensure retained local responsibilities are adequately performed and documented.

Transformation & TSA Exit

  • Lead finance readiness and transition activities for Day-2 operations.
  • Support TSA exit, carve-out, ERP deployment and finance process transformation.
  • Coordinate knowledge transfer, control readiness and stabilization activities.
  • Drive sustainable process design and reduce unnecessary duplication between local teams and external providers.

Team Leadership & Stakeholder Management

  • Lead, coach and develop country finance team members.
  • Build collaboration across Thailand, Indonesia, Vietnam and Singapore.
  • Act as the principal finance contact for local management, regional finance, tax, treasury, auditors, advisors and BPO partners.
  • Communicate risks, decisions, dependencies and progress clearly to senior stakeholders.

Professional and educational qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or a related field; CPA, ACCA or equivalent qualification preferred.
  • Approximately 10-15 years of finance and accounting experience, including meaningful leadership responsibility.
  • Experience supporting or overseeing multiple ASEAN countries.
  • Strong hands-on background in statutory accounting, tax, audit and local compliance.
  • Experience with shared services, BPO governance, carve-outs, TSA exits or finance transformation is highly desirable.
  • Manufacturing or multinational company experience is preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of IFRS, statutory reporting, tax governance, internal controls and treasury processes.
  • Ability to review detailed operational work and resolve complex accounting or compliance issues.
  • SAP experience preferred; SAP S/4HANA and finance transformation exposure are advantageous.
  • Strong analytical, communication and stakeholder-management skills.
  • Professional proficiency in Thai and English.
  • Hands-on leader who can balance regional governance with local execution.
  • Sound judgment, strong risk awareness and disciplined escalation.
  • Able to lead effectively in a lean organization with changing priorities.
  • Collaborative and credible with country teams, senior stakeholders and external parties.
  • Strong ownership of delivery, controls and license-to-operate requirements.
