Forward Deployed Engineer

We are seeking an adaptable, customer-obsessed Forward Deployed Engineer to work shoulder-to-shoulder with our strategic partners, learn their mission inside and out, and turn their toughest challenges into working solutions on the Ask Sage platform.

What you will do

• Build trusted relationships with customers and their leadership, learning their business processes and mission goals well enough to spot where Ask Sage can create the most value.
• Serve as the customer's primary point of contact for Generative AI questions, providing hands-on support and in-depth end-user training from first idea through deployment and adoption.
• Design and build Generative AI agents and plugins on the Ask Sage platform, with mentorship, pairing, and code support from our in-house developer team as you grow these skills.
• Embed with customers on site as needed, guiding them from concept to production and keeping momentum when priorities shift.
• Identify repetitive, time-consuming tasks in the customer's day-to-day work and turn them into automated solutions that give people their time back.
• Translate customer feedback into clear, prioritized requirements and share them with our product and engineering teams so the platform keeps improving.
• Follow Ask Sage's established standards for quality, security, and privacy, with our developer staff providing guidance, review, and support as you learn them.
• Deliver work that is clear, reliable, and easy for others to maintain.
• Stay curious about advances in Generative AI and bring fresh ideas back to your customers and to the team.
• Partner with colleagues across sales, product, support, and engineering to deliver a seamless customer experience that meets and exceeds expectations.

What you should have

• Minimum of 3 years of relevant professional experience solving problems for customers or end users; direct customer-facing experience is strongly preferred, and experience in a technical or software environment is a plus.
• Comfort working with Generative AI tools and prompting, plus a security-conscious mindset; deeper technical skills, including cloud and secure development practices, can be developed on the job with support from our programming staff.
• A talent for spotting creative ways to increase customer impact with Ask Sage, and the ability to explain complex ideas simply to both technical and non-technical audiences.
• Strong project management and ownership; you can carry an effort from first meeting to delivered outcome and adjust as customer needs change.
• Willingness to work from customer locations on an as-needed basis and to travel as required to meet customer objectives.

What we'd like you to have

• At least 1 year of practical, hands-on experience using Generative AI tools to automate work or build agents. No specific degree is required.
• Familiarity with retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) or other approaches to connecting AI to an organization's own information.
• Exposure to modern software delivery tools and practices (for example, Docker, Kubernetes, or CI/CD pipelines).
• Working knowledge of government compliance frameworks such as FedRAMP, NIST AI RMF, or CMMC 2.0
