Backend Engineer

We are looking for a strong Backend Engineer with 3-5 years of hands-on experience building scalable, reliable backend systems for consumer or B2B product companies. This is an opportunity for someone who enjoys working in an early-stage startup environment, takes end-to-end ownership, and wants to build products rather than work on assigned tickets. You will work closely with the founding/product/engineering team to design, build, and scale backend services powering Biopeak's technology platform.

Responsibilities:

• Design, develop, and maintain scalable backend services and APIs.
• Build robust RESTful APIs and backend systems for product features.
• Work closely with product, frontend, data, and business teams to translate requirements into reliable solutions.
• Design efficient database schemas, queries, and data models.
• Build integrations with internal and third-party systems/APIs.
• Focus on performance, scalability, security, and reliability.
• Write clean, maintainable, and production-ready code.
• Participate in architecture and technical design discussions.
• Debug production issues and proactively improve system reliability.
• Contribute to engineering practices, code reviews, testing, and CI/CD.
• Take ownership of features from problem understanding, design development, deployment, and monitoring.

Requirements:

• Currently working with or has previously worked at a product company, consumer-tech company, SaaS company, or early-stage startup.
• Has built products/features that are live in production.
• Comfortable working with ambiguity and changing requirements.
• Strong ownership mindset: someone who can independently take a feature from idea to production.
• Enjoys working in small, high-performing engineering teams.
• Strong coding fundamentals and engineering judgment.
• Someone who wants to build 01 and 110 products, rather than work in a large process-heavy environment.

Must-Have Skills:

• 3-5 years of strong backend engineering experience.
• Strong proficiency in Python / Node.js / Java / Go or another modern backend language.
• Strong understanding of REST APIs, backend architecture, and distributed systems fundamentals.
• Hands-on experience with SQL databases such as PostgreSQL/MySQL.
• Experience with NoSQL databases such as MongoDB/Redis is a plus.
• Good understanding of cloud infrastructure, preferably AWS/GCP.
• Experience with Git, CI/CD, and production deployments.
• Strong problem-solving and debugging skills.
• Experience building and scaling production-grade applications.

Preferred Background:

• Candidates from product-led companies, SaaS startups, consumer-tech companies, fintech, health-tech, AI/ML, or other technology startups are preferred.
• Not preferred: Candidates whose experience is predominantly from traditional IT services/outsourcing companies without significant product-building exposure.
