At Blue Origin, we envision millions of people living and working in space for the benefit of Earth. We’re working to develop reusable, safe, and low-cost space vehicles and systems within a culture of safety, collaboration, and inclusion. Join our team of problem solvers as we add new chapters to the history of spaceflight!

As a member of the Blue Origin family of companies, Honeybee Robotics has been at the forefront of robotics for over 40 years. Our Colorado location specializes in creating advanced motion control solutions for NASA, defense, and commercial programs. Our work has played a critical role in thousands of projects, spanning from conceptual design studies to flight missions, including NASA's Artemis I Mission and the Roman Space Telescope. We are seeking technically brilliant individuals who are passionate about their work, thrive in collaborative environments, and have a laser focus on the details that drive excellence.

Blue Origin is leading a new era of lunar exploration. As part of the National Team, we're developing the Blue Moon MK2 lunar lander - the vehicle that will carry astronauts to and from the surface of the Moon in support of NASA's Artemis campaign to return humans to the lunar surface and establish sustained lunar presence. This is a once-in-a-generation opportunity to put your hands on hardware that will fly to the Moon and carry people there safely.

This role is part of the Motion Control Business Unit, Honeybee Robotics, which designs, manufactures, and tests high-performance, reliable motion control components and integrated solutions that power the most demanding aerospace and space exploration missions. From actuators and gearboxes to motors and precision motion control systems, our products operate in the harshest environments, enabling critical missions from Earth to deep space. Our Test Department plays a critical role in ensuring every component and system meets the rigorous standards required for mission success.

As part of a hardworking team of specialists, technicians, and engineers in our Test Department, you will apply standard engineering knowledge and methods to design, plan, model, execute, and interpret tests for aerospace systems and components. With a focus on space mechanisms in support of the Lunar programs, you will develop test strategies for mechanisms and implement comprehensive test campaigns, along with the associated Electrical Ground Support Equipment (EGSE) and test software needed to electrically stimulate, power, command, and measure these mechanisms. This role is a combination of test and operations development, planning and documentation, hands-on running tests, and troubleshooting/data analysis.

Special Mentions

  • Relocation provided
  • Travel expected up to 10% of the time

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and validate Electrical Ground Support Equipment (EGSE) to electrically interface with, power, command, stimulate, and measure mechanisms under test
  • Develop test software and automated test sequences (e.g., Python, LabVIEW) to command EGSE, orchestrate test execution, and collect, analyze, and report measurement data with real-time monitoring
  • Design, set up, and operate test fixtures, ground support equipment (GSE), and data acquisition systems to support electromechanical system testing
  • Analyze test data; identify anomalies, root causes, and corrective actions; and communicate findings clearly to engineering and project teams
  • Support test readiness reviews (TRRs), test anomaly investigations, and failure review boards (FRBs)
  • Operate and maintain test laboratory equipment, including motor controllers, torque sensors, encoders, load cells, and multi-channel data acquisition systems
  • Interface with customers, suppliers, and external test facilities as required to support program milestones
  • Perform other duties as assigned, including tasks or projects outside the primary scope of this role as needed to support evolving program, test, and business priorities

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, Mechanical Engineering, or a closely related technical discipline
  • Minimum of 5 years of hands-on experience developing Electrical Ground Support Equipment (EGSE), automated test equipment (ATE), and/or test software in support of hardware testing (Preferred aerospace or electromechanical systems experience)
  • Ability to read, interpret, and develop electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and interface control documents to support EGSE stand-up and troubleshooting
  • Experience with one programming language (e.g., Python, LabVIEW, C#), with the ability to develop test software and automated test sequences
  • Experience with data acquisition systems and instrumentation (e.g., load cells, torque sensors, encoders, thermocouples, accelerometers)
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze and interpret test data, identify anomalies, and drive resolution through structured problem-solving methods
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to clearly document and present technical findings
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a cross-functional team environment
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Controls Engineering, Mechatronics, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field
  • Experience developing test software in compliance with NASA NPR 7150.2D (NASA Software Engineering Requirements) or equivalent software assurance standards
  • Familiarity with motion control and power transfer systems, including brushless DC motors, slip rings, flex harnesses, and motor drive electronics
  • Familiarity with Radio Frequency testing fundamentals (e.g., Vector Network Analysis (VNA))
  • Proficiency with data analysis tools such as MATLAB, Python, or equivalent scripting environments
  • Experience with test automation and scripting for automated test execution and data collection
  • Familiarity with environmental test standards such as MIL-STD-810, GEVS (GSFC-STD-7000), or equivalent aerospace qualification standards
  • Experience with version control systems (e.g., Git) and software development best practices for test software development
  • Knowledge of AS9100 or ISO 9001 quality management systems and associated documentation practices
  • Familiarity with model-based systems engineering (MBSE) tools or requirements management platforms (e.g., DOORS, Jama)
  • Experience supporting test campaigns at external test facilities or customer sites
  • Prior experience in a space hardware development environment with exposure to full product lifecycle testing (development, qualification, and acceptance)
