We are looking for a Lead Mainframe Developer to join our amazing Intelligent z Optimization & Transformation group (IZOT) in the AMI data for Db2 Team (fully remote in either US or Canada; we're unable to offer visa sponsorship).
In this role, you’ll be responsible for designing, developing, maintaining, and enhancing BMC’s core mainframe Db2 product, BMC AMI Copy for Db2 /BMC AMI Recover for Db2. These are mature, mission-critical solutions deeply embedded in customers’ z/OS and Db2 environments.
You will be a Lead Developer across projects and teams, acting as a subject matter expert on C, C++, Assembler, JES2, z/OS internals, Db2 internals, Assembler Macros, ISPF Panels, CLIST and XML, JCL - including mentoring and providing technical guidance to team members.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and successfully design, develop, test, maintain and deliver Db2 Products, product lines and solutions using C, C++, HLASM etc.
- Design, Code and fix bugs of very complex Db2 Product solutions.
- Produce a range of high-quality design options, reflecting a wide breadth of technical knowledge and insight. Conduct code and design reviews.
- Evaluate changes introduced by IBM Db2, assess product impact, Maintain current knowledge of Db2 technologies, mainframe environments, industry trends, and related software technologies.
- Work directly with global clients on complex product issues/escalations.
- Mentor/provide technical guidance to the development team.
To ensure you’re set up for success, you will bring the following skillset & experience:
- 10+ years of experience with z/OS Environment (including structure and logic), working in Db2 internal, z/OS Internals.
- 10+ years of experience in IBM coding and development, including extensive development experience using C, C++ programming languages. (system-side development - not only applications development), Good handle on HLASM, CLIST, JCL.
- Strong experience working with JES2. Experience with IBM Mainframe environment (TSO/ISPF, JCL, Db2, VSAM etc.).
- Dump reading analysis is critical using IPCS, XDC etc.
- Experience in developing working code utilizing low-level operating system functions to accomplish a desired task.
- Experience creating functional designs/specifications from business requirements.
- In-depth experience in troubleshooting complex problems at application and systems levels.
- Self-starter with ability to work both independently and as a part of a team.
Nice to have skills, which can make you stand apart in the crowd you can develop the following skills while in BMC:
- Adoption of AI-assisted development practices across the Product Development Lifecycle (PDLC), leveraging tools such as Cursor.ai to improve productivity, code quality, design efficiency, and development velocity.
- Utilize Cursor.ai to accelerate software design, code generation, unit test creation, debugging, refactoring, code reviews, and technical documentation activities.
- Knowledge of Source code management tools like BMC Code pipeline, GitHub
- IBM z/OSMF workflows
- SMP/e knowledge is a plus.
- DUMP Reading
- Knowledge of Mainframe Db2 & z/OS System Administration and Mainframe Db2 Product support knowledge

Actual salaries depend on a wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions, including but not limited to skill sets; experience and training, licensure, and certifications; and other business and organizational needs.
The range listed is just one component of BMC's employee compensation package. Other rewards may include a variable plan and country specific benefits.
At BMC, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at /near the top of the range. A reasonable estimate of the current range is $132,975 - $221,625
