BMI

BMI is a music rights organisation that handles licensing and royalties for songwriters and publishers, and its group includes the music recognition business Soundmouse. Its vacancies include tax managers, social media specialists and IT service desk staff in the United States, Sri Lanka and Bulgaria. The company is headquartered in Nashville, Tennessee, United States.

Behind every identified performance is data — and behind that data are systems, tools and people working to make sure music usage is accurately understood and ultimately supports royalty distribution.

As an Analyst, Digital Identification, you’ll combine analytical thinking, technical skills and music industry knowledge to support BMI’s performance identification production cycle. You’ll work with data from a variety of sources, execute technical workflows, analyze identification results and help uncover opportunities to improve accuracy, efficiency and identification rates.

This role sits at the intersection of data, technology and music. You’ll work with customized applications, reporting tools and data assets; partner with teams across Distribution and Tech; troubleshoot issues; and help turn complex information into insights that support business decisions.

This is a great opportunity for someone who enjoys working with data, solving technical problems, spotting patterns and continuously looking for better ways to get the right music identified.

Position Summary

Provides business intelligence, quality assurance, and overall technical support for the quarterly performance identification production cycle. Deploys technical skills related to the performance identification discipline. Increase overall knowledge base of organization’s data assets and technologies.

FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB:

Schedules, executes, and applies the results of an established suite of supplementary auto-identification scripts that support BMI’s audio performance identification objectives.  Analyzes the results to identify potential algorithmic refinements, new approaches that could increase yield and attain overall higher ID rates.

Executes established market-specific workflows powered by customized applications that assist in the cleansing, formatting, and extraction of usage for downstream identification and distribution. Assesses opportunities for reengineering processes in newer technologies.

Generates and delivers, to the relevant stakeholders, various reports that mine non-identification related data assets in order to assess identification priorities. These data assets include charting works information, pending work registrations, and 3rd party data.

Collaborates with departmental management to coordinate execution of technical tasks related to quarterly close processes, both within the department and the IT department. Assists in troubleshooting as needed.

Maintains best practices as learned from continuous training on systems, procedures and decision-making. Updates and creates new Standard Operating Procedures documentation.

Partners with the IT department to coordinate the ingestion of production and analytical data received from licensees and data vendors.

Conducts offline ad-hoc data cleansing and formatting for new or non-compliant sources whose music use information is not ready for identification and distribution.

Maintains BMI’s Digital Audio Distribution Dashboard (DADD) to identify trends in consumption and identification rates. Works with Senior Data Analysts to evolve as the business developments require.

Generates and analyzes established KPI reports for all key non-digital markets including terrestrial radio, live concert, airlines, and commercial background music services.

Synthesizes, summarizes, and communicates findings to departmental leadership to aid in prioritization and resource planning efforts.

Executes established QA routines and analyzes the results to detect variances and deviations that are indicative of processing or data quality issues.

Collaborates with supervisor, departmental leadership, and the larger Analytics team to develop new quality assurance reports that aid in the attainment of higher levels of accuracy and efficiency.

You execute technical workflows accurately and consistently while recognizing opportunities to improve how the work gets done.

You identify patterns, variances and potential data-quality issues and use sound judgment to determine the right next step.

You turn data and reporting into clear, useful insights that help leaders make informed decisions about priorities and resources.

You’re comfortable learning new tools, systems and technologies and applying that knowledge to real business challenges.

You collaborate effectively across Distribution, Analytics and IT to troubleshoot issues and keep critical processes moving.

You document processes clearly and help strengthen the knowledge base for the team.

You continue building your understanding of BMI’s data, performance identification processes and the technology that supports royalty distribution.

Why Join Us?

At BMI, technology and data help connect music performances to the creators behind them.

As an Analyst, Digital Identification, you’ll have the opportunity to work with the data, systems and analytical processes that help BMI identify music usage and support accurate royalty distribution. Your work will have visibility across Distribution, Analytics and IT and will contribute to both day-to-day production and longer-term process improvement.

You’ll build technical and analytical skills, deepen your knowledge of the music industry and help solve problems that directly impact how performance data is understood and processed.

If you’re energized by data, technology and music — and enjoy digging into problems, finding patterns and making processes better — we’d love to meet you!
