BOQ

BOQ, Bank of Queensland, is an Australian bank offering personal and business banking, including home loans.

About the role

We’re looking for an experienced analytics leader to join our Financial Crime Operations team as Manager, Financial Crime Data Analytics.

This is a newly created role where you’ll lead our day-to-day Financial Crime analytics capability, turning complex data into clear, meaningful insights that support decision-making across AML/CTF, sanctions, fraud and scams. You’ll work closely with Financial Crime Operations, Compliance, Risk, Data and Technology, helping strengthen controls, identify emerging risks and support regulatory and remediation outcomes.

You’ll lead a mix of operational reporting, dashboards, trend and thematic analysis, data-risk assessments and deeper analytical work across customer, transaction, payment, alert, screening and case data. You’ll also support remediation activity, regulatory commitments and detection effectiveness, including rule and model testing, tuning and monitoring.

Just as importantly, you’ll lead and develop a specialist analytics team, setting clear priorities and quality standards while creating an environment where people are encouraged to be curious, challenge assumptions and follow the data.

About you

You - our preferred candidate is an experienced analytics leader who enjoys making sense of complex problems and turning data into practical insights people can act on. You bring strong technical capability alongside a good understanding of Financial Crime risk and can communicate confidently with operational, technical, risk and senior stakeholders.

You’ll have significant experience across data analytics, Financial Crime, risk analytics, remediation, data governance or a related banking environment, along with experience leading analytical teams. Exposure across areas such as AML/CTF, sanctions, fraud and scams, KYC/CDD, transaction monitoring, screening or regulatory reporting will be important.

You are across working with large and complex datasets, with advanced SQL skills and experience using tools such as SAS Enterprise Guide, Power BI and Excel. Python or another analytical language would be highly regarded, particularly where you’ve used it for automation, modelling or reproducible analytics.

Most importantly, you’re curious, evidence-led and comfortable asking the right questions when something doesn’t quite add up. You’re able to balance technical rigour with practical outcomes, openly communicate limitations in the data and create clear, useful insights that support better decisions. As a leader, you’re collaborative and inclusive, and genuinely enjoy building capability in the people around you.
