Job Description:
Broadcom’s Mainframe Software Division (MSD) is looking for a seasoned Software Engineer with a talent for developing software and championing a culture dedicated to quality, security, and a smooth user experience. This role focuses on our non-mainframe applications, with opportunities to expand your experience into mainframe software.
This role is in the Mainframe DevOps value stream, as a software engineer for one of our flagship products, Gen (formerly known as COOL:Gen or CA Gen). Gen is a low-code, model-driven development environment for enterprise applications. Gen enables global enterprises to generate and deploy applications in a single, integrated development environment for multiple platforms.

The Opportunity
As a Software Engineer (ICB 4), you will take ownership of the development, quality, and security of Gen. This is a hands-on technical role: you will write code, contribute to code reviews, and influence technical standards and testing strategies. Concurrently, you will serve as a subject matter expert and thought leader in partnership with product management and customers. While your primary focus will be on our distributed (non-mainframe) applications, you will also have the chance to engage with our mainframe software, offering a unique opportunity to broaden your technical expertise across the full enterprise stack.

What You’ll Do
Research, develop, and implement high-quality, secure software solutions to maintain and enhance Gen's core product capabilities for non-mainframe applications.
Troubleshoot and fix customer cases that have been escalated to engineering.
Contribute to technical design to ensure robust security standards, while retaining a simple user experience.
Provide subject matter expertise by authoring technical blogs, webinars, and documentation on best practices.
Offer thought leadership directly to enterprise customers, helping them navigate complex business requirements and advising them on Gen modernization and security best practices.
What You Need
Minimum of 8 years of experience in software development.
BA/BS in Computer Science or equivalent degree.
Strong analytical skills and the ability to understand complex component relationships.
Growth mindset with a commitment to continuous personal and professional development.
Strong problem analysis and debugging skills
Deep expertise and hands-on coding experience with Java, C#, C, and/or C++
Experience in Windows, Unix, and Linux operating systems.
Expertise in relational databases.
Knowledge and related experience in one or more of the following: Cloud Native Architectures, Containers, .NET, TCP/IP, Tuxedo, WebSphere, Liberty, WebLogic, JBoss (WildFly), InstallAnywhere, Eclipse
Experience with designing and using web APIs like gRPC, REST etc
Additional skills that will benefit your efforts
Experience working with language servers or compilers.
Understanding of complex microservices, databases, and Client-Server communication.
Demonstrated experience implementing cybersecurity principles (e.g., cryptography, secure coding practices, access controls) and using industry-standard products like passkeys and TLS.
Experience in object-oriented programming (OOP) principles and Component Based Development (CBD).
Skilled with automation for test and CI/CD implementation.
Experience with Source Code Management tools, such as GitHub.
Knowledge and related product expertise in any of the following: Python, Typescript, Docker, Kubernetes, Spring Boot, Jakarta, Oracle, Db2, MS SQL Server, ODBC, JDBC, ADO.NET, COM, Windows MFC, Jenkins, Ansible.
Experience with mainframe technologies.
Experience developing with or maintaining Gen.
Compensation and Benefits
The annual base salary range for this position is USD 109,700.00 To USD 175,500.00
