BukuWarung is building the financial and digital nervous system for millions of underserved merchants. Payments, credit, software, commerce, money management - all converging into one integrated platform.
We are not building features. We are building infrastructure that small businesses depend on to survive.
If you have ever wanted to design systems that matter at scale (not ad-tech dashboards, not incremental UI improvements) but real, high-volume, reliability-sensitive, multi-country platforms, this is that opportunity.
The MissionWe are entering a critical phase of growth. Velocity is improving. AI is accelerating development. But before acceleration, we need architectural depth.
We are looking for a Staff Engineer who cares deeply about:
Designing systems that scale 10x and 100x
Failure domains and blast radius reduction
High availability and reliability engineering
Clean abstractions and long-term maintainability
Architecture that enables speed, not blocks it
Lead architecture, design for high-scale systems across payments, EDC, credit, and merchant platforms
Design for multi-region expansion and high transaction volumes
Establish and elevate system design review standards
- Drive platform thinking across squads
Identify scaling bottlenecks before they hurt
Reduce operational burden through thoughtful abstractions
- Mentor engineers and grow them
You will work directly with engineering leadership and influence product decisions where system design matters.
8+ years building and scaling backend distributed systems
Deep understanding of system design fundamentals (consistency models, caching strategies, event-driven architecture, fault tolerance, data modeling at scale)
Experience with microservices and/or modular monolith architectures
Hands-on expertise with cloud infrastructure (AWS preferred)
Strong intuition for performance tuning and observability
Comfort operating in ambiguity while raising engineering bar
Experience in fintech or transaction-heavy platforms
Experience scaling systems across regions
Prior Staff/Principal-level impact in high-growth environments
At large tech companies, you optimize a slice of a mature system. Here, you will shape the spine.
Your decisions will influence how millions of merchants experience financial services. You will help define how engineering thinks about scale as a culture, not just as code.
If you are someone who:- Thinks in systems, not just services
Gets uncomfortable when architecture feels fragile
Enjoys whiteboarding failure scenarios more than debating frameworks
- Wants ownership beyond tickets
If you’re excited by scale, complexity, and building something enduring, let’s talk.
