Description

The Infrastructure Engineer I is the entry level of the Infrastructure Engineer career path, responsible for the day-to-day administration, maintenance, and support of Campbell Companies’ on-premises and hybrid cloud infrastructure, including servers, Active Directory, virtualization, backup systems, and patch management, and for the hands-on installation and replacement of network equipment (Aruba switches, routers, firewalls, and wireless access points) at Campbell Companies sites as it ages out. Working under the guidance of the Infrastructure Engineer II and III, the Cloud & Systems Engineer, and the Manager, Infrastructure & Cloud Ops, this role follows established standards and runbooks to keep platforms stable, secure, and operationally ready. This position supports all Campbell Companies.

Duties and Responsibilities

Server & Systems Administration

  • Administer and maintain Windows Server environments, including Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, Group Policy, and file services, following established standards.
  • Provision and maintain virtual machines on Hyper-V or VMware, including snapshots and basic resource monitoring.
  • Perform scheduled patch management for servers and infrastructure components using WSUS or Intune-based tooling.

Network Equipment Lifecycle & Site Refresh

  • Travel to Campbell Companies sites to install, rack, cable, and replace network switches, routers, firewalls, and wireless access points as they reach end of life, following the network refresh schedule.
  • Stage and pre-configure new network equipment from standard configurations and templates (preferred platform: Aruba) before site visits.
  • Perform cutovers during scheduled maintenance windows and validate afterward: device health, uplinks, VLANs, PoE, wireless coverage, and end-user connectivity.
  • Decommission, wipe, and dispose of retired equipment; update the asset and network inventory with serial numbers, locations, and end-of-support dates.
  • Document each site, including network closet photos, rack elevations, port maps, and cable labeling, and keep network diagrams current.
  • Apply firmware updates to switches, access points, and other network devices under the direction of the Infrastructure Engineer II or III.

Backup & Recovery

  • Execute and monitor daily backup jobs; validate backup integrity and perform test restores on a regular schedule.
  • Participate in disaster recovery test exercises under the direction of senior engineers.

Monitoring & Incident Response

  • Monitor infrastructure health using Azure Monitor, SCOM, or equivalent tooling; respond to alerts and resolve routine incidents within SLA targets.
  • Escalate complex issues to the Infrastructure Engineer II or III with thorough documentation.
  • Support Digital Support technicians on escalated server, file share, and access issues.

Security Compliance

  • Apply security patches and configuration changes per directives from the Manager, Cybersecurity & Risk.
  • Assist in hardening server and infrastructure configurations against CIS benchmark standards.

Documentation & Learning

  • Create and maintain infrastructure runbooks, network diagrams, and configuration documentation.
  • Build skills in PowerShell, Azure administration, and networking through training and certification, preparing for advancement to Infrastructure Engineer II.
  • Provide on-site infrastructure support at Campbell Companies locations as needed.
  • Work safely in all aspects of the role.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education

  • Associate’s or bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field; equivalent experience considered.

Experience

  • Minimum of 1-3 years of experience in systems administration, infrastructure support, or advanced Tier 2/3 IT support.
  • Hands-on exposure to Windows Server, Active Directory, and virtualization platforms.
  • Hands-on experience installing, cabling, or replacing network switches, routers, or wireless access points.

Technical Skills

  • Windows Server administration (2016/2019/2022), Active Directory, DNS, and DHCP.
  • Virtualization: Hyper-V or VMware vSphere.
  • Backup tooling experience (Veeam, Azure Backup, or similar).
  • Basic scripting in PowerShell for automation and reporting.
  • Familiarity with Azure IaaS and Microsoft Intune is a plus.
  • Networking fundamentals: TCP/IP, VLANs, trunking, PoE, DHCP, DNS, and basic routing.
  • Network cabling and closet standards (patching, labeling, structured cabling, rack and power basics).
  • Exposure to Aruba switching and wireless (Aruba Central, Instant On, or CX) preferred.

Skills and Competencies

  • Strong troubleshooting and documentation habits.
  • Willingness to learn, follow change management procedures, and accept coaching.
  • Clear communication with technical and non-technical colleagues.

Certifications (Preferred)

  • Microsoft Certified: Azure Fundamentals (AZ-900).
  • CompTIA Network+ or Server+.
  • Aruba Certified Switching Associate (ACSA) or Aruba Certified Mobility Associate (ACMA) a plus.

  • Must have visual acuity sufficient to read computer screens, small device labels, and serial numbers, and to distinguish color-coded cables and status indicators.
  • Work is performed primarily in an office environment. Field location visits may include shop, yard, and job site conditions with noise and dust, and require site-specific PPE.
