As a Staff Software Engineer within the Customer Management & Protect - Fraud & Scams Squad, part of the wider Digital & Customer Crew and CommSec Technology domain, you’ll lead strategic, end-to-end technology initiatives that help protect customers from fraud and scams at scale.
Acting as a backend technical authority and reporting into the Chapter Lead, you’ll design and build critical API services and microservices that power secure, reliable and high-performing customer experiences.
Working across the full technology lifecycle, from architecture and engineering through to delivery and optimisation, you’ll provide technical leadership, shape engineering standards and guide complex solutions that safeguard millions of customer interactions. The Customer Management & Protect - Fraud & Scams Squad sits within the Digital & Customer Crew and CommSec Technology domain, building the platforms, services and controls that protect customers from fraud, scams and financial crime.
The squad plays a critical role in supporting CommSec, the Group’s leading trading platform, helping ensure customers can invest and trade with confidence. Leveraging modern .NET engineering, cloud-native platforms, APIs and microservices, the squad delivers secure, scalable and resilient technology across the full customer journey.
By combining real-time detection, prevention and customer protection capabilities with modern engineering practices, the team tackles complex security challenges at scale, safeguarding millions of digital interactions, strengthening customer trust and enabling safe, seamless investing and banking experiences.
We’re interested in hearing from people who:
Have deep expertise in .NET, C# and AWS, with a proven track record of designing, building and operating scalable cloud-native applications.
Have experience owning the full software delivery lifecycle from ideation and architecture through development, testing, deployment, operations and ongoing support, taking accountability for outcomes in a "you build it, you run it" environment.
Have designed and delivered large-scale REST APIs, microservices and distributed systems, with a strong focus on scalability, resilience, security and performance.
Demonstrate strong architectural capability, driving technical decisions and influencing platform, integration and cloud-native solution design across engineering teams
Tech skills
We don't expect you to know everything, but experience in several of the following will set you up for success:
Architecture & Design: System design, solution architecture, technical leadership, architecture assessments.
Back End: C#, .NET, .NET Core, REST APIs, Microservices, Backend Services, Distributed Systems.
Cloud: AWS (preferred) and/or other cloud platforms is highly valued
Observability: Monitoring, logging, tracing, alerting, production support and performance analysis.
Security: Authentication, authorisation, secure API design, secrets management, secure software delivery.
Front End: React, TypeScript (nice-to-have for full stack contribution).
Database: SQL, MSSQL, NoSQL databases, persistence and integration patterns.
DevOps: CI/CD, Docker, Kubernetes, automation and deployment practices.
Engineering Practices: Automated testing, performance optimisation, reliability, operational readiness and ownership.
Other: Java considered if the candidate is willing to transition into .NET.
