At 2,772 acres, Pelham Bay Park is the largest park in the city. Pelham Bay Park contains a variety of expansive natural areas, in addition to extensive recreational facilities that draw park patrons not only from the borough but also the larger metropolitan region.

Major Responsibilities

- Under general direction, with wide latitude for independent initiative and judgment, work closely with the Administrator for Pelham Bay Park, Operations office, staff and other Agency divisions to coordinate purchasing, volunteer projects, public programs and community initiatives consistent with parks priorities.

- Plan and oversee 30+ annual volunteer events, including large scale corporate projects with 100-200+ participants, and coordinate staffing, tools, materials, safety requirements, permits and other event logistics.

- Manage volunteer registration, communications, waivers, participation records, service hours and program outcomes.

- Develop and maintain partnerships with corporations, nonprofits, schools, civic organizations, community groups and other stakeholders.

- Lead volunteer projects, including shoreline cleanups, invasive species removal, trail maintenance, beautification and other improvement activities.

- Conduct community outreach and promote volunteer opportunities, public programs, meetings and special events.

- Track and report program metrics, including volunteer participation, service hours, project outcomes and community impact.

- Serve as liaison with Purchasing, Accounting and vendors, coordinating purchase orders, account setup and modifications and maintaining accurate financial reports.

- Create yearly budget with Administrator and prudently manage resources within those budget guidelines

- Collaborate with the Park Administrator and Special Events team to plan, implement, promote and evaluate public programming.

- Support Park community partners with organizational development, events, outreach, publicity and fundraising activities.

- Prepare reports, correspondence, and other administrative materials for the Park Administrator and perform related duties as assigned.

1. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and two years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to the duties described above; or

2. High school graduation or equivalent and six years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to the duties as described above; or

3. Education and/or experience which is equivalent to "1" or "2" above. However, all candidates must have at least one year of experience as described in "1" above.
