About the role: 

TL;DR: We are looking for a seasoned Lead Product Designer to lead the design function at Colossyan, across all four of our cross-functional product-engineering teams. We expect a broad range of design skills, exceptional taste, and demonstrated experience managing designers. You are still hands-on and want to stay that way, and you are actively reshaping your own practice around AI. You want a role that combines leading the team with contributing directly to key initiatives yourself.

What we're looking for

• A track record in high-performing, fast-paced startup environments

• 7+ years in product design or UX design

• 2+ years of experience managing designers directly

• Strong understanding of user-centered design principles, and fluency in UX research

• Fluency with design systems and how they get implemented in code

• Judgement on quality against pace. You know when additional quality effort produces diminishing returns, and you make scope trade-offs deliberately

• A current portfolio of work you designed yourself. We expect you to keep designing in this role

• Bonus: you ship to production, perhaps with a little help from AI

• Bonus: experience designing AI products

What you will do

In one sentence: you lead the design team and own the design of our key initiatives.

• You partner with Product and Engineering to shape the roadmap and the vision, and you lead the design team to deliver it

• You represent our customers in every room, anchoring product and design decisions in real, evidence-backed problems, and you drive qualitative research and user testing with your team

• You lead, mentor and develop the designers in the team, accountable for their performance and their growth

• You lead the effort to improve design quality and process, and you make sure the team has the tooling and infrastructure to do their work

• You own how design works across all four teams, including the design system and who holds it

• You integrate AI into the team's design workflow and operational practice, finding where it accelerates craft, reduces friction and opens new possibilities

• You stay properly hands-on. Each quarter you pick up a number of projects yourself and work the problem directly, and you use that work to set the craft standard for the team

• You communicate design strategy and outcomes to an executive audience, leading with the recommendation and the business outcome, and adapting to who is in the room
