Commonwealth Bank of Australia is the country's largest bank, established by federal legislation in 1911 as a government-owned institution and fully privatised by 1996. It serves roughly one in three Australians across retail deposits, home lending, business banking and institutional markets, and holds the largest share of the domestic mortgage market. The bank has invested unusually heavily in technology for its size, rebuilding its core systems and pushing the CommBank application into a broader financial and lifestyle platform, and it runs the venture arm x15ventures to build and buy adjacent digital businesses.

Credit Risk Manager, Policy Simplification

Location: Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane or Perth

  • Shape and simplify Home Lending credit policy to improve customer and frontline experiences
  • Influence how policy is translated into practical business rules, guidance and digital decisioning
  • Join a collaborative, multi-skilled team working across credit risk, product and change

Do work that matters

As Credit Risk Manager, Policy Simplification, you will help drive the simplification and optimisation of Home Lending credit policy. You will reduce unnecessary complexity, improve customer journeys and support greater automation of credit risk decisioning, while ensuring responsible lending and maintaining alignment with Home Buying’s credit appetite and the Group credit policy framework.

You will review existing Home Lending policies, identify opportunities for improvement and translate policy requirements into clear, practical business rules and guidance. Working closely with frontline, decisioning, product and risk stakeholders, you will help ensure our policies are easy to understand, consistently applied and deliver appropriate outcomes for customers.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Reviewing, forming and clearly articulating Home Lending credit policy
  • Engaging with frontline, decisioning and business stakeholders to identify opportunities to simplify or rewrite policy
  • Defining and refining the business rules and guidance materials that support credit policy
  • Assessing channel and business-unit needs to ensure policy requirements can be applied effectively
  • Using customer, portfolio and market insights to identify emerging risks and opportunities
  • Supporting business cases, implementation plans and the delivery of policy and process improvements

The role is designed to improve policy and process while continuing to support responsible, prudent lending and strong credit-quality outcomes.

See yourself in our team

The Home Loans Product, Pricing and Credit Risk team is responsible for the end-to-end performance of CBA’s retail home loan products, including product and feature design, pricing, policy and credit risk management.

Within this broader function, the Credit Risk team proactively manages and optimises the Home Loan portfolio through strategy, analytics and credit policy. The team works across multiple priorities, bringing together customer, commercial and risk perspectives to support sustainable portfolio performance.

You will report to the Senior Manager, Credit Risk Automation and work closely with colleagues across Credit Risk Strategy, Governance and Performance.

We’re interested in hearing from people who

  • Bring experience in credit risk management, with Home Lending or consumer-lending experience highly regarded
  • Can interpret, review and clearly articulate credit policy, business rules and supporting guidance
  • Have strong stakeholder management and influencing skills, with the ability to build trusted relationships across risk, product, decisioning and frontline teams
  • Use customer, market and portfolio insights to identify risks, simplify processes and improve policy outcomes
  • Demonstrate excellent written communication, attention to detail and the ability to translate complex requirements into clear, practical language
  • Are organised, commercially minded and comfortable contributing to change initiatives in a flexible, multi-skilled environment
  • A qualification in business, finance or a related discipline is desirable.

Working with us

If you are passionate about making credit policy simpler, clearer and easier to apply, while protecting customers and maintaining strong risk outcomes, we would love to hear from you.
