Frontend Engineer Lead

Responsibilities:

• Own frontend projects end-to-end, from understanding the problem and shaping the UX through to production.
• Turn ambiguous requirements into simple, thoughtful user experiences.
• Design and implement complex interactions for agentic workflows: streaming responses, task execution, progress, errors, and state transitions.
• Build reusable frontend architecture, components, and patterns that let the product move quickly without sacrificing quality.
• Work closely with backend engineers to design APIs, data flows, and frontend/backend boundaries.
• Debug and improve production systems, including performance, reliability, and cross-browser issues.
• Make pragmatic technical decisions in a fast-moving environment.

Requirements:

• 1-3 years of professional software engineering experience; up to 5 years for the right candidate.
• A track record of shipping and iterating on production frontend applications that are reliable, responsive, and performant.
• Proficiency in TypeScript/JavaScript and a modern framework such as React, Vue, or similar.
• Command of HTML, CSS, browser fundamentals, and frontend architecture.
• Solid data structures, algorithms, and computer science fundamentals.
• Sharp problem-solving and debugging instincts.
• Self-direction. You don't need everything broken down into tickets to make progress.

Product Sense:

• This one is a requirement, not a bonus. You don't need formal design experience. You do need taste. Concretely, you should care about:
• How quickly a user understands what to do, and how little friction stands in their way.
• Whether an interaction feels natural and predictable, and stays consistent across the product so users build correct mental models.
• Visual hierarchy and information composition that guide attention without confusion.
• Loading, empty, error, and intermediate states. The interface should stay clear when data is complex or still streaming in.
• Keyboard interactions, accessibility, and behaviour across screen sizes.
• The small details that make an interface feel intentional rather than merely functional.

Good to Have:

• Experience with Next.js or comparable modern frontend tooling.
• Experience building developer tools, IDEs, dashboards, or productivity software.
• Experience with streaming interfaces, WebSockets, or real-time applications.
• Experience building AI/LLM-powered applications.
• Deep frontend performance work and browser internals.
• Experience contributing to design systems or reusable component libraries.
• Startup or early-stage experience.
• Backend familiarity: APIs, databases, and distributed systems.
