About the Role

We are seeking a Firmware QA Specialist to join our R&D team in Vancouver. You will help ensure the quality and reliability of firmware and embedded software used in our smart-grid communication solutions through hands-on testing, troubleshooting, and defect analysis. Working closely with firmware developers and cross-functional engineering teams, you will develop and execute test plans, investigate issues, and contribute to improvements in test coverage and automation. Practical experience with Linux environments and network equipment, including routers and switches, is important for success in this role.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute test plans, test cases, and scenarios for firmware and embedded software features, including feature and regression testing.
  • Review and clarify technical requirements with relevant teams; prepare test environments and carry out test execution.
  • Configure and troubleshoot routers, switches, and other test equipment to support network-related test scenarios.
  • Investigate, reproduce, and document defects; analyze test results and provide actionable information to developers.
  • Participate in defect triage and follow through on identified issues to support timely resolution.
  • Contribute to the development, maintenance, and improvement of automated testing systems and test repositories.
  • Support laboratory setup and maintenance, keeping test cases and environments aligned with product changes.
  • Estimate testing effort, track assigned activities, and communicate testing progress, risks, and results to the team.
  • Collaborate with engineering and other cross-functional stakeholders to support high-quality software releases.

Required Qualifications

  • At least 2 years of experience in quality assurance, software testing, or software development.
  • At least 2 years of experience working with Linux or Unix-based operating systems.
  • Solid understanding of networking concepts and protocols, such as TCP/IP and SNMP.
  • Hands-on experience configuring and troubleshooting network routers and switches.
  • Knowledge of system and application security concepts, such as TLS, PKI, and encryption.
  • Experience with at least one scripting language, such as Python or shell scripting.
  • Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and technical documentation skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities, communicate clearly, and work effectively with cross-functional teams.

Nice to Have

  • Familiarity with hardware communication interfaces, such as UART.
