The Center for the Study of Services (CSS) is a nonprofit healthcare survey research organization that builds web-based tools to help consumers navigate health insurance choices. The Front-End Developer builds and maintains the front end of these decision-support tools using Angular and collaborates with product and technical teams to make complex healthcare information clear and easy to use for consumers.


Responsibilities

  • This role builds and maintains the front end of our decision-support tools using Angular
  • The Front-End Developer works with our product and technical teams to make complex information related to health care and health coverage choices clear and easy to use for consumers

Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, information technology, or a related field
  • 3+ years of experience in developing and deploying Angular, React, and/or Next.js applications
  • Proficiency in TypeScript and modern web development frameworks (Angular, React, Vue, or jQuery)
  • Styling using CSS/SASS/Bootstrap/Tailwind
  • Experience with responsive web design and cross-browser compatibility
  • Experience using front-end unit testing frameworks
  • Understanding of how a web application divides responsibility across layers - the back end owns business rules and security enforcement, the database owns persistence, and the front end owns presentation and user interaction - and how to keep the front end decoupled from the back end by relying on stable API contracts, structuring the UI as reusable, testable components
  • Hands-on experience using AI coding assistants in day-to-day development
  • Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and clear communication with both technical and non-technical colleagues
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects with shifting deadlines
  • Interest in learning about consumer choices in health insurance and healthcare
