Senior Embedded Software Engineer (Modern C++)
Location: Hyderabad
Department: Engineering
Employment Type: Full-Time
Position Overview We are seeking a Senior Embedded Software Engineer to design, develop, and optimize high-performance, secure firmware for our next-generation hardware platforms. In this role, you will bridge the gap between low-level hardware interactions, high-level architectural design, and strict payment industry compliance.
Our engineering culture prioritizes safety, deterministic execution, ultra-low latency, and transactional security. You will leverage modern C++17 to build robust, zero-overhead abstractions-completely eliminating legacy, error-prone C patterns. You will own the end-to-end automation pipeline, ensuring software quality via cross-compilation, advanced ISTO -compliant hardware tracing, and secure EMV transaction workflows.
Core Responsibilities
Ø EMV Protocol Implementation & Compliance: Design, optimize, and maintain EMV Contact (L1/L2) and Contactless kernels. Implement highly secure, zero-allocation APDU parsing pipelines and cryptographic wrappers that comply with strict payment network certifications.
Ø Modern Driver Architecture: Design and maintain peripheral drivers (SPI, I2C, UART, CAN, DMA, NFC/RFID interfaces) utilizing C++17 compile-time design patterns (if constexpr, template polymorphism) to eliminate runtime overhead.
Ø Advanced Trace & Debugging (ISTO): Leverage ISTO standards (e.g., IEEE-ISTO Nexus 5001 Global Embedded Processor Debug Interface) for non-intrusive trace, performance analysis, and root-cause debugging of bare-metal applications without impacting timing behavior.
Ø Resource & Memory Management: Author deterministic, zero-heap applications using custom allocators, placement new, and RAII wrappers to guarantee zero memory leaks and block-free execution during time-critical payment processing.
Ø Firmware Virtualization & Simulation: Build and manage cross-compilation toolchains targeting custom architectures. Set up and run automated test suites inside QEMU / Software-in-the-Loop (SIL) environments for EMV regression testing.
Ø Sanitizer Instrumentation: Instrument code and debug complex runtime issues using memory, thread, and undefined behavior sanitizers (ASan, TSan, UBSan) integrated directly into CI/CD pipelines.
Required Technical Skills & Competencies To be successful in this role, you must be able to demonstrate deep expertise in the following areas during our technical assessment:
1. EMV & Secure Systems Engineering
Ø Demonstrated experience developing embedded software compliant with EMVCo specifications, ISO 7816, or ISO 14443 standards.
Ø Understanding of secure elements, payment cryptography (RSA, DES/3DES, AES), and side-channel attack mitigation in a bare-metal environment.
2. Advanced C++17 Concepts
Ø Deep understanding of non-owning memory types (std::string_view) and explicit error-handling models without heap usage (std::optional, std::variant) to handle complex payment state machines safely.
Ø Expert utilization of type-safe hardware mapping tools (std::byte) and strict safety enforcements ([[nodiscard]]).
3. Low-Level Memory & Concurrency Management
Ø Strong knowledge of disabling non-deterministic language features (e.g., building with -fno-exceptions and -fno-rtti) while preserving architectural safety.
Ø Mastery of thread synchronization using lightweight, lock-free hardware atomics (std::atomic) over heavy mutexes to prevent priority inversions during synchronous I/O operations.
4. Simulation, DevOps, and Tooling
- Hands-on experience interpreting complex stack traces, utilizing ISTO tracing protocols, and debugging target-specific binaries running under emulators (QEMU).
- Experience writing and optimizing automated test configurations for CI/CD environments (GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, or Jenkins).
Qualifications
Ø Bachelor’s/Master’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
Ø 5+ years of experience developing production-grade firmware for bare-metal systems or RTOS environments (e.g., FreeRTOS, Zephyr).
Ø Expert-level proficiency in modern C++ (C++17 or later) and modern CMake build systems using VSCode / Kiro IDE.
Ø Strong familiarity with ARM Cortex-M, RISC-V, or similar modern microprocessor architectures, specifically those featuring advanced secure enclaves/TrustZone.
