Job Summary
We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Structural Design Engineer to join our team. In this role, you will be responsible for creating, analyzing, and detailing structural designs and calculations for a variety of projects. You will work closely with architects, project managers and site engineers to ensure all load-bearing systems are structurally sound, cost-effective, and fully compliant with applicable building codes.
* Key Responsibilities & Duties
• Structural Analysis & Design: Perform structural load calculations (gravity, wind, seismic, thermal) and stress analysis for concrete, steel, masonry, and timber structures.
• Drafting & Technical Documentation: Prepare clear engineering drawings, structural layouts, fabrication details, framing plans, and material specifications using 2D/3D software.
• Material Estimation & BOQ Coordination: Collaborate with quantity surveyors and estimators to select cost-effective construction materials, calculate structural quantities, and prepare structural Bill of Quantities (BOQ) inputs.
• Interdisciplinary Coordination: Work with architectural, MEP (Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing), and civil teams to resolve structural clashes and integrate structural elements seamlessly into overall building models.
• Code & Regulation Compliance: Ensure all design models, foundation plans, and framing systems strictly comply with local building regulations and international design standards [e.g., IBC, Eurocodes, ACI, AISC, BS standards].
• Design Optimization: Evaluate structural systems to identify value engineering opportunities without compromising safety, durability, or spatial aesthetics.
• Site Inspections & Technical Support: Conduct periodic site visits to inspect ongoing structural works, review foundation conditions, check rebar layouts, and issue responses to RFIs (Request for Information) during the construction phase.
• Education: Bachelor’s degree in civil or Structural Engineering (Master’s degree in Structural Engineering preferred).
• Professional Licensure: Registered Professional Engineer (PE) or Chartered Engineer (CEng) license preferred [or clear track toward licensure].
• Experience: [3–5+] years of direct experience in structural design and analysis in a consultancy or construction setting.
• Software Proficiency:
o High proficiency in AutoCAD and BIM/Revit Structure.
o Proficiency in structural analysis software [e.g., ETABS, SAP2000, SAFE, STAAD.Pro, Robot Structural Analysis, or Tekla].
• Technical Knowledge: Strong foundation in structural mechanics, soil mechanics/geotechnical interactions, concrete reinforcement design, and steel connection design.
* Key Skills & Competencies
• Strong analytical and mathematical problem-solving skills.
• Excellent attention to detail and high standard for precision.
• Good communication skills to liaise with clients, architects, and construction contractors.
• Ability to prioritize tasks, meet project deadlines, and manage workload on multiple active designs.
