Postdoctoral Research Fellow - Computational Genomics, Hovestadt Lab

The Hovestadt Lab in the Department of Pediatric Oncology at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute (https://hovestadtlab.github.io, affiliations with Boston Children’s Hospital and the Broad Institute of MIT and Harvard) is seeking a highly motivated computational postdoctoral research fellow. Our lab studies childhood brain tumors and leukemias, two of the most common cancers in children. We aim to better understand tumor biology using cutting-edge experimental and computational approaches. Translational goals of our research include the development of more accurate patient classification systems and novel treatment strategies.

Requirements

The postdoctoral fellow will perform computational analyses of novel single-cell epigenomic datasets (incl. DNA methylation) generated from different types of childhood cancers. The goal of these analyses is to identify tumor-specific alterations relative to their respective cellular origins and to understand their role in tumor formation. The project provides ample opportunity to advance scientific skills and to collaborate with world renowned experts in the fields of childhood brain tumor research and epigenomics. Candidates need to be passionate about cancer research and intrinsically motivated. Creativity and innovative/independent thinking are a must.

Qualifications

• A PhD in Cancer Biology, Epigenetics/Genetics, Computational Biology, or related discipline
• Experience in developing computational methods to analyze and visualize new types of genomic data
• Understanding of human developmental biology and recent single-cell profiling efforts
• Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with scientists from other disciplines
• Good oral and written communication skills
• An outstanding academic track record
