DHL Express is seeking a Program Manager Global Network Support to join the team responsible for the systems and data that underpin our global network in Diegem. In this role you will use statistical methods, data analytics and machine learning to ensure excellent service quality for our customers.

How will you contribute to the success of DHL?

Capacity Management

• Support the capacity management system to increase/optimize network utilization, resulting in a lower CPK (Cost per kilo). This will be a single integrated view of network IT systems to support Network Operations employees globally in proactively managing network capacity.
• Responsible for VISTA (Visibility of Shipments Transit Ahead of arrival) to manage the network capacity in real-time, using live shipment checkpoint information thus creating efficient, service beneficial routings for every shipment travelling through our network.
• Optimizing the adaptive forecasting models within VISTA to forecast loads in advance of operations
• Managing and interpreting complex data flows to guide operational decision making
• Provide Business support for VISTA
• Maintenance of the system (updates, data enhancements etc.).
• Responsible for GRABS (Global Routing and Bagging System) to manage routing changes and entries globally, in order to improve routing compliance, reduce miss-sorts and hence reduce service impact and open the potential to optimize routings and demand utilization across the network.
• Deriving analytical and data requirements from business needs & objectives
• Cleansing, analyze and report on different datasets
• Create user stories and supporting systems documentation (BRS documents, Bulletins, User Manual)
• Manage and support the development and UAT
• Responsible for the Short Term Capacity Model (SCM):
• Forecasting loads and required container allocations in advance of operations and communicating free capacity to sales departments
• Improving the utilization of our network by developing and deploying Capacity Management programs resulting in improved utilization and lowering our overall unit costs.
• Improving the service we provide by ensuring sufficient capacity on the right flights and ensure that material is routed as per the original plan to ensure we meet our transit time promise.
• Other Systems and Tools
• Enhance the Demand and Supply tool to support management to take suitable action regarding planning and foresee extra capacity in advance at a lower unit cost.
• On-Hold application - real-time visibility of On-Hold shipments in our network.
• The job holder would be responsible for:
• All supporting systems documentation (Specification documents, Bulletins, User Manuals)
• Providing business support for these systems to all regional teams.
• Maintenance of systems (updates, data enhancements etc.). SCM tasks are not automated and are essential to keep the system live.
• Creating status reports and/or dashboards
• Planned vs. actual routing compliance to ensure we meet our transit time promise.
• Provide input to the NCR process on routing/bagging splits.
• Training and first line business support

Forecasting

• The job holder will lead DHL’s short & long term forecast, through maintaining and fine-tuning methodologies, tools, processes and data consolidation with various sources - both internal and external.
• Producing DHL’s 8 weeks rolling Container (ULD) Origin Destination & Flight Origin Destination Forecast for DHL’s owned Global Air network and Commercial Air movements.
• Using DFT - Demand Forecasting Tool, processes and data consolidation with various sources - both internal and external (e.g. Public Holidays).
• Producing the Mid-Term Forecast (quarterly) incl. collaboration with Sales/Finance to support different processes e.g. Holiday cancellation forecast
• Managing the continuous improvement of the short- and long-term forecast accuracy KPIs, through the development of intelligent forecasting methodologies and collaborative methodologies, allowing statistical forecasts to be supplied with market and field intelligence inputs. This includes the improvement of VISTA (Real Time Tool) using shipment checkpoint data with the objective to predict material available for next uplift prior to physical arrival at facility.
• Producing all forecast related reports (e.g. forecast accuracy reports etc.).

Systems and Tools

• Develop and lead the implementation and optimization of the network planning and network control methods and tools in line with the roadmap. Implement and globally roll-out these systems in conjunction with Global IT, external vendors and other business stakeholders.
• The systems in focus for this role include the Forecasting/collaborate engine DFT (Demand Forecasting Tool), Optimization tools, Capacity Management Systems and others. These systems should better plan and control our networks and allow us to react faster on changing economic climates.
• They will train users on these systems and provide support when changes are required.

Do you have what it takes?

• Proven experience in statistical forecast methodologies and algorithms, data visualization and operational research
• Experience in the use of DHL’s standard analytics tools including:
• Python and it’s data science libraries
• Jupyter Labs
• SQL and NoSQL
• Power BI
• Microsoft Excel
• Experienced in analyzing large and complex datasets coming from different business functions
• Development of mathematical models (e.g. regression, classification, linear programming, deep learning)
• Expertise in using other data management/manipulation tools, including SAS, Excel, Access, Unix shell programming, Oracle, Java
• Data warehouse experience is a plus (Teradata and Oracle)
• Able to produce creative analytical solutions based on clear and thorough analyses of complex processes and business relationships
• Creation of solution prototypes for business users to experiment with
• Comfortable in explaining complex analytical and technical content to various audiences
• Experience supporting and working with cross-functional teams in a dynamic and international environment
• Energetic team player with a positive ‘can do’ attitude
• Independent work ethic, integrity and loyalty
• University Degree or equivalent industry experience; emphasizing computer science, mathematics, statistics, management science
• Fluency in spoken and written English
• In depth knowledge in the area of Aviation and Logistics
