Currently, around 4,000 employees are working at CARIAD on the digital transformation of the car. CARIAD is working intensively on the software and technology platform for Premium Platform Electric (PPE). The first vehicles based on PPE will be the electric Porsche Macan and Audi Q6 e-tron. At the core of CARIAD is the development of the unified and scalable software and technology platform E³ 2.0 for all Group brands. E³ stands for ‘end to end electronics architecture’. The new software and technology platform is built from scratch and will be used first at the end of 2024 in Artemis, the lighthouse project of Audi. Job Description:
Role Overview
We are looking for a skilled Backend Developer with strong experience in Python, REST API development, microservices, databases, and cloud technologies. The role involves designing and developing scalable backend services, integrating cloud platforms, and building reliable data-driven applications.
The ideal candidate should have hands-on experience with Azure services, SQL/PostgreSQL, Git, CI/CD, Docker, and Kubernetes, along with a good understanding of modern backend architecture and development practices.
Key Responsibilities
Backend Development
- Design, develop, and maintain scalable backend applications using Python.
- Develop robust and secure REST APIs for application and system integrations.
- Design and implement microservices-based architectures.
- Write clean, reusable, maintainable, and well-tested code.
- Perform debugging, troubleshooting, and performance optimization of backend services.
- Collaborate with frontend, cloud, DevOps, and other engineering teams for end-to-end solution delivery.
Cloud & Azure
- Develop and deploy backend services using Microsoft Azure.
- Work with Azure services such as Azure IoT Hub, Azure Compute, and Azure Storage.
- Support cloud-based application integration and service deployment.
- Implement scalable and reliable cloud solutions based on business and technical requirements.
Data Handling & Persistence
- Design and implement data storage and retrieval solutions.
- Work with SQL and PostgreSQL databases.
- Develop efficient queries and optimize database performance.
- Ensure data consistency, integrity, and reliability across backend services.
DevOps & Deployment
- Use Git for source code management and collaborative development.
- Develop and maintain CI/CD workflows using GitHub Actions.
- Containerize applications using Docker.
- Work with Kubernetes for container orchestration and deployment.
- Support automated build, deployment, and release processes.
Required Skills
- Strong programming experience in Python
- Hands-on experience in REST API development
- Good understanding of microservices architecture and design patterns
- Experience with Azure Cloud services
- Knowledge of Azure IoT Hub, Compute, and Storage
- Strong knowledge of SQL and PostgreSQL
- Experience with Git and GitHub Actions
- Working knowledge of Docker and Kubernetes
- Understanding of CI/CD and modern software development practices
- Good understanding of software development lifecycle and coding best practices
Good to Have
- Experience developing cloud-native applications
- Understanding of API security, authentication, and authorization
- Knowledge of distributed systems and asynchronous communication
- Experience with logging, monitoring, and application troubleshooting
- Exposure to automated testing and code-quality practices
- Experience working in an Agile/Scrum environment
Experience
2+ years of relevant experience in backend/software development.
Education
Bachelor’s/Master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Electronics, or a related engineering discipline.
