Why we need you

We’re building experiences that wow our customers - and that starts with bold, curious people who want to do work that matters.

If you’re hungry to grow, excited by impact and ready for a challenge that will supercharge your career, this could be your moment.

We are seeking a highly analytical and commercially minded Data Scientist / Actuarial Analyst to play a key role in modelling and analysing the financial performance of the business. As a core member of the team, you will combine actuarial expertise, data science techniques, and a strong understanding of Super Group's business operations to develop credible financial models, generate actionable insights, and support strategic decision-making.

The successful candidate will leverage statistical analysis, predictive modelling, and data-driven problem solving to identify opportunities, assess risks, and provide recommendations that drive sustainable business value and operational excellence. Your drive and ideas will help us move faster, improve smarter, and stay ahead of the game.

What you’ll do

You’ll take ownership of work that gives us our competitive edge, including:

  • Assist in the ongoing development and enhancement of the SuperModel, including coding, testing, debugging, and implementing model improvements.
  • Develop, maintain, and enhance user-friendly tools that support assumption setting and model inputs.
  • Design, develop, and maintain reporting dashboards and visualisations using Power BI to support business decision-making.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate SuperModel outputs into group financial systems, reporting platforms, and business processes.
  • Support the onboarding of new users and provide ongoing technical assistance and training to non-actuarial users of the SuperModel.
  • Utilise the SuperModel to support financial forecasting and business planning activities, including:
  • Extracting, transforming, validating, and analysing customer and transactional data.
  • Developing and setting model assumptions based on historical experience, trends, and future business expectations.
  • Executing model runs and analysing, interpreting, and reporting on forecasting results.
  • Conduct scenario analysis to evaluate potential business outcomes and support strategic decision-making.
  • Develop and apply regression models and other statistical techniques to analyse business performance and inform forecasting assumptions.
  • Perform ongoing analysis of the commercial performance of Super Group's markets and subsidiaries to inform the structure, design, and future development of the SuperModel.
  • Conduct ad hoc business and actuarial analyses, including the assessment of persistency rates and other key performance metrics, to support operational and strategic initiatives.

This list covers your core responsibilities - with plenty of room to stretch, explore and take on new challenges as we grow.

What you’ll bring

You’re someone who brings:

  • Bachelor's degree (BSc, BBusSc, or equivalent three- or four-year qualification) with Actuarial Science and Statistics as major subjects.

  • Minimum of 3 years' actuarial experience, preferably within an actuarial valuations, pricing, or modelling environment in the life insurance or retirement funds industry.

  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and at least intermediate-level SQL skills.

  • Demonstrated experience and strong aptitude in Python or other programming languages commonly used within data science, analytics, or modelling environments.

  • Progress towards actuarial qualification, including having passed or been granted exemption for the following ASSA examinations (or equivalent): A213 Contingencies (previously CT5), A211 Financial Mathematics (previously CT1), A113 Business Finance (previously CT2).

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to translate complex actuarial, financial, and technical concepts into clear and accessible information for non-technical audiences.

  • Proven report-writing skills with a high level of attention to detail and accuracy.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities, with the ability to interpret data and provide meaningful business insights.

Desirable skills you’ve got up your sleeve

It would be great if you also have some the following skills:

  • Experience developing and maintaining models within cashflow modelling software such as Tyche, Prophet, or similar actuarial modelling platforms.

  • Experience applying stochastic modelling techniques and Monte Carlo simulations to support forecasting, risk assessment, and business analysis.

  • Experience designing, developing, and maintaining dashboards and reports using Power BI or similar business intelligence and data visualisation tools.

  • Working knowledge of R or comparable statistical programming languages used for actuarial, analytical, or data science applications.

  • Progress towards actuarial qualification, with preference given to candidates who have passed or been granted exemption for the following ASSA examinations (or equivalent):

  • NS Model, Documentation Analysis and Reporting (A402/A420) or Module 3 of N111: Modelling Fundamentals, N211 Professional Communications for Actuaries
