Technical Lead – Systems Engineering
About the Role
We are seeking an experienced and dependable Technical Lead to take ownership of client infrastructure and provide senior technical leadership within a growing MSP environment. In this role, you will oversee the design, delivery, security, and ongoing management of client systems across Microsoft 365, Azure, Azure Virtual Desktop, Windows Server, networking, and cybersecurity.
You will act as the senior technical escalation point, lead complex projects and migrations, guide technical standards, and work closely with clients to ensure their technology environments support their business objectives. This opportunity is suited to a technically strong professional who enjoys variety, takes ownership, and wants to make a meaningful contribution within a collaborative MSP team.

Ideal Profile
Experience & Technical Expertise
- 5+ years of experience in systems engineering or IT support
- Proven experience as a Senior Systems Engineer, Technical Lead, or Systems Administrator within an MSP environment
- Strong experience with Microsoft 365, Azure, Azure Virtual Desktop, Windows Server, Active Directory, and Intune
- Experience managing networks, firewalls, backups, and cloud migrations
- Hands-on experience with ConnectWise Manage and ConnectWise Automate
- Strong cybersecurity and compliance knowledge, including Essential 8 and SMB 1001
- Broad technical capability with the ability to work across diverse systems and projects
- Experience with automation, monitoring, and RMM technologies
- Relevant IT qualifications or tertiary education in Information Technology or Computer Science
Certifications & Additional Expertise
- Microsoft Certified: Azure Administrator Associate, M365 Fundamentals, or Azure Virtual Desktop Specialty
- CompTIA Network+ or Security+
- ConnectWise University certifications
- ITIL Foundation
- Microsoft SC-900, CISSP, or equivalent cybersecurity certifications are advantageous
- Solution design capability is highly regarded

Responsibilities
Systems & Infrastructure
- Own and manage client Microsoft 365, Azure, Azure Virtual Desktop, and on-premises infrastructure environments
- Administer Windows Server, Active Directory, and Group Policy environments
- Manage local networks, including SonicWall firewalls and Ubiquiti/UniFi switches and wireless infrastructure
- Proactively monitor, maintain, and optimise system performance, backups, and reliability
Technical Escalations
- Act as the senior escalation point for Microsoft 365, Office, infrastructure, cloud, network, and general IT issues
- Provide advanced troubleshooting and resolution for complex technical problems
- Provide technical leadership and direction across client environments
Projects & Migrations
- Plan, design, and deliver Microsoft 365 and Azure projects
- Implement and manage Azure Virtual Desktop environments
- Lead tenant-to-tenant migrations, email and domain migrations, and server and network upgrades
- Manage project delivery from planning through implementation and completion
Security & Compliance
- Implement Conditional Access, Intune/Endpoint Manager, Microsoft Defender, and email authentication technologies including SPF, DKIM, and DMARC
- Lead cybersecurity initiatives aligned with Essential 8 and SMB 1001 frameworks
- Manage security, compliance, and risk across client environments
- Ensure client systems align with relevant best practices and cybersecurity standards
Automation & Documentation
- Develop PowerShell scripts to improve efficiency and automate technical processes
- Create and maintain technical standards, procedures, and runbooks
- Improve internal processes and operational practices
- Maintain accurate, high-quality technical and customer documentation
Client & Team Leadership
- Serve as a technical account manager for key clients
- Translate complex technical concepts into clear business language
- Build strong, trusted relationships through proactive communication and service delivery
- Mentor and support junior technicians and contribute to the technical development of the broader team
