The opportunity

The Commercial Manager Delivery role will see you shape and deliver commercial strategy across a significant program of work. You will optimise revenue opportunities, manage contractual and project risk, strengthen stakeholder relationships and support sustainable, profitable performance.

Leading the project Contracts team, you will be a trusted commercial adviser and the initial escalation point for contractual, legal, procurement, financial, governance, subcontractor performance and project delivery matters. You will work closely with project leaders, clients and internal specialists to achieve strong commercial outcomes throughout the project lifecycle.

A key part of your role will be coaching and mentoring team members, strengthening commercial capability and creating a collaborative, high performing culture.

This position offers flexibility, with a minimum of three days each week in the office or on site and the remaining two days able to be worked flexibly from home, the office or site. Additional office or site attendance may be required to support key project priorities.

What we’re looking for

You will be an accomplished commercial leader with strong construction or infrastructure experience and the ability to operate confidently in a complex, relationship focused project environment.

To succeed in this role, you will bring:

  • Demonstrated commercial management experience in a comparable business environment, including at least five years operating at this level
  • At least five years of experience within construction, infrastructure or a related industry
  • Experience leading complex commercial teams and managing commercial functions across major projects or programs
  • Strong knowledge of the Australian construction market and common forms of contract
  • Proven experience negotiating contracts with appropriate risk profiles and working within established governance requirements
  • The ability to develop and implement commercial strategies that improve revenue, margin, risk and stakeholder outcomes
  • Experience managing project risk and opportunity, procurement, claims, disputes, contract performance and commercial reporting
  • Strong commercial acumen, strategic thinking and sound, evidence based judgement
  • Demonstrated success in building trusted relationships with clients, contractors, suppliers and internal stakeholders
  • Proven coaching, mentoring and team development capability
  • Excellent written and verbal communication, influencing and negotiation skills
  • The ability to remain organised, adaptable and focused while managing competing priorities
  • An understanding of the utilities sector, ideally gained within water, energy or infrastructure environments
  • A tertiary or postgraduate qualification in commercial management, contract management, finance, contract law or a related discipline will be highly regarded.
