Downer has an exciting opportunity for an HV & Instrumentation Apprentice to join our Mechanical & Electrical team, supporting Melbourne’s CityLink, West Gate Freeway and Bridge, M80 interchange and West Gate Tunnel.
This isn’t your typical electrical apprenticeship. You’ll work alongside experienced electricians and technicians, gaining hands-on exposure to high voltage, instrumentation, tunnel systems, Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS) and tolling equipment while completing your Certificate III in Electrotechnology (Electrician).
You’ll build practical skills through planned maintenance and emergency works, with structured training and support throughout your apprenticeship.
What you’ll be doing
- Learning alongside experienced electricians and technicians
- Gaining hands-on experience across HV, instrumentation, tunnel, ITS and tolling systems
- Assisting with planned electrical maintenance and emergency works
- Developing practical trade skills while completing your apprenticeship
- Participating in occasional night works and tunnel shutdowns under supervision
- Working safely and contributing to Downer’s Zero Harm culture
About you
We’re looking for someone who is enthusiastic, reliable and ready to learn.
- A genuine interest in the electrical trade
- Completion of Year 10 or above
- A reasonable understanding of maths and English
- A current driver’s licence, or be working towards one
- Commitment to completing your trade studies
- A positive attitude and willingness to learn
- A strong focus on safety
- Flexibility to work occasional nights when required
