Job Description:
Cloud Data Technologies (CDT) team at eBay is responsible for all the data platform, infrastructure and management of end-to-end data lifecycle for all eBay data from eBay products to analytics use cases. We are seeking a Software Engineer passionate about data-driven technologies and architectures.
About the Role
We are looking for MTS 2 Software Engineers to join the Golden Data Sets (GDS) Platformteam within eBay's Core Data Platform organization.
The problem we're solving is significant: eBay currently manages over ten thousands of loosely defined datasets with fragmented pipeline implementations, resulting in widespread data duplication, redundant compute, and runaway operational costs. The GDS Platform addresses this by building a fully declarative data platform - one that accepts dataset specifications, maintains a comprehensive view of the total data flow graph, and automatically produces optimized pipelines to systematically eliminate these inefficiencies at scale.
As an engineer on this team, you will contribute to the systems that power this platform - from computation graph management to pipeline optimization and dataset lifecycle. Your work will directly reduce operational waste across eBay's data infrastructure.
Note: This is a Data Platform Engineeringrole. Familiarity with Spark, Flink, and the Hadoop ecosystem is useful context, but your primary responsibility is building the platform itself - not authoring pipelines.
What you’ll do and learn
Own and deliver major componentsof eBay’s Data Platforms- from design through production rollout.
Design and evolve distributed systemspowering ingestion, streaming, lakehouse/warehouse, catalog, and governance.
Contribute to long-term architecturethrough design reviewsand authoring architecture design documents, ensuring scalability and resilience.
Build systems that balance latency, correctness, and cost while ensuring securityand compliance.
Drive operational excellencefor services you own, including observability and incident response.
Collaborate across product, infra, and analyticsteams to align execution with business needs.
Learn and grow in areas like governance, orchestration, and privacy engineering.

Experience designing large-scaledistributed systems(compute, storage, APIs, streaming).
Ability to independently delivercomplex projects from requirements to production.

Qualifications
10+ years of software engineering experience, primarily in distributed systems or data platforms.
Proven ability to designand delivercritical systems with impact.
Proficiency in Java/Python, CI/CD, and containerized environments.
Hands-on expertise in tools like Kafka/Flink, Spark, Delta/Iceberg, Kubernetes, NoSQL/columnar stores.
Experience in streamingand batchdata platforms.
Strong foundation in algorithmsand distributed design.
BS/MS in CSor equivalent experience.
