Do you enjoy writing software that runs close to the hardware, and do you want to see your code come to life in high-tech medical equipment used worldwide? Do you feel as comfortable debugging firmware on a microcontroller as you do building a clean web interface? Employ IR is looking for a Software Engineer who wants to take the next step in his or her career in the Netherlands. In this position, you will work on modular embedded systems for advanced laboratory instruments, within a small, hands-on team in which your contribution is visible from day one.
Duties & ResponsibilitiesAs a Software Engineer, you will be responsible for designing, developing, testing and documenting software for high-tech medical equipment and laboratory instruments. The client specializes in capillary electrophoresis, a technique used to separate and measure substances in liquid samples. Your software ensures that these instruments are accurate, reliable, and easy to use.
The function includes the entire stack. On the embedded side, you write firmware in C for STM32 microcontrollers running on FreeRTOS, with communication via CAN bus. At a higher level, you work with Buildroot Linux, Python and FastAPI to build RESTful APIs, and with HTML, CSS and JavaScript on the user interfaces. Your work will include:
- Design and development of embedded software and application software for modular laboratory instruments.
- Testing your software in practice on the actual equipment, not just at your desk.
- Write clear technical documentation and manage code with version control (SVN).
- Working closely with colleagues from development, engineering, production, service and quality control.
- Coming up with ideas to improve existing products and the development process.
This is a position in day shift of 32 to 40 hours per week, within an organization where short lines of communication and a practical attitude are part of the daily work.
Desired Experience & QualificationYou are an accurate, analytical engineer who is enthusiastic about the combination of embedded systems and full-stack development. You work well independently, but you also find it important to share knowledge and solve problems together with colleagues from other disciplines.
You have:
- A bachelor's degree in Software Engineering, Computer Science, Electronic Engineering, or a similar field.
- Several years of experience in software development, preferably with embedded systems.
- Knowledge of C, STM32, CAN-bus and FreeRTOS.
- Experience with Python (FastAPI), RESTful APIs, and Linux (Buildroot is a plus).
- Affinity with web technologies such as HTML, CSS and JavaScript, and with version control such as SVN.
- A good command of Afrikaans and the willingness to move to the Netherlands and learn Dutch.
Experience in medical technology or with laboratory equipment is a great advantage, but a genuine interest in the field is at least as important.
Package & RemunerationAt Employ IR you get the space and freedom to take initiative and develop yourself. We think it is important that you can make optimal use of your expertise and offer plenty of room to grow both personally and professionally. In addition, we offer:
- A base salary between €4,357 and €5,200 gross per month (depending on experience).
- Employ IR reimburses work-related costs and the costs of moving to the Netherlands.
- 8% of your gross annual income as holiday pay.
- A company car that you can also use privately.
- 25 vacation days.
- A stimulating working environment with attention to atmosphere and job satisfaction.
- A solid pension scheme for a secure future.
