Cobol Mainframe Consultant

Job Purpose

The COBOL Mainframe Consultant will be responsible for developing, maintaining, enhancing and supporting business-critical applications within an IBM Mainframe environment. The successful candidate will analyse business requirements, troubleshoot system issues and deliver reliable, high-quality technical solutions.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop, maintain and enhance applications using COBOL.
• Work with mainframe technologies, including JCL, CICS and DB2.
• Analyse business and technical requirements and translate them into technical solutions.
• Perform application maintenance, debugging and troubleshooting.
• Investigate and resolve production incidents and system defects.
• Develop and maintain batch processing jobs and online transaction programs.
• Perform unit testing, integration testing and support user acceptance testing.
• Support database operations, SQL queries and data processing.
• Participate in code reviews and ensure compliance with development standards.
• Prepare and maintain technical documentation.
• Collaborate with business analysts, project managers, testers and technical teams.
• Support system enhancements, releases and continuous improvement initiatives.

Minimum Requirements

• Relevant IT qualification or equivalent practical experience.
• Proven experience in COBOL development within an IBM Mainframe environment.
• Strong knowledge of JCL (Job Control Language).
• Experience with CICS and DB2.
• Experience in application maintenance, debugging and production support.
• Understanding of batch processing and online transaction processing.
• Knowledge of the software development life cycle (SDLC).
• Strong analytical, problem-solving and communication skills.
