Critical Facilities Engineer (Level IV): Electrical / Mechanical

Location: Equinix, Slough campus |

You keep critical systems running, and people only notice your work when something stops. You can track down a fault on your own and you know how to work safely. Now you want a role where that experience counts and leads somewhere.

Equinix runs some of the world's most critical data centers. Banks, hospitals, airlines and cloud providers depend on our sites every minute of the day.

Slough is our largest UK campus and one of our busiest in Europe. The plant behind it is what you already know: power distribution, standby generation, cooling, water and fire systems. The difference here is that everything runs 24/7 and there's no shutdown window.

We're looking for an experienced Electrician /Electrical Engineer or Mechanical Engineer to join the team as a Level IV Critical Facilities Engineer.

What you'll be doing

Keeping the plant running

  • Planned and reactive maintenance on electrical and mechanical systems, including LV distribution, standby generators, battery and backup power, chillers, pumps, air handling, water and fire suppression
  • Fault-finding, repairs, installations and inspections
  • Monitoring the BMS, responding to alarms and fixing issues using clear procedures
  • Operating critical systems alongside senior engineers, and building your authorisations as you go

Owning the work on site

  • Managing contractors from start to finish: briefing them, overseeing the work and signing it off
  • Writing and following method statements, permits to work and switching procedures
  • Finding weak points in the system and suggesting how to remove them
  • Being one of the first to respond when something fails

Having a say

  • Suggesting improvements and projects
  • Taking on projects and new installations
  • Supporting and mentoring less experienced engineers on the team
  • Keeping critical spares at the right level so the team is never caught short

What you'll bring

  • A trade background in electrical or mechanical engineering. NVQ Level 3 or equivalent experience is required, and AM2 is preferred for electrical candidates.
  • Hands-on maintenance experience in an environment where reliability matters, such as manufacturing, utilities, commercial buildings, transport, or the armed forces
  • Experience working in the UK and knowledge of UK regulations and safe systems of work
  • Confidence working on your own, using good judgement and following procedures
  • Experience with permits to work and managing contractors. BMS experience is a plus.
  • Willingness to work shifts and be part of an on-call rota

Data centre experience isn't required. If you've maintained plant that people depend on, you already have the foundation. We'll teach you the rest.
