Enterprise Architect

We are seeking an Enterprise Architect to own the technical direction of our digital banking platform. You will translate business and product intent into service boundaries, data models, and integration contracts, and hold the line on availability, correctness, security, and regulatory compliance as the platform scales. This is a hands-on role, you will write code, review designs, and be accountable for decisions in production.

Responsibilities

• Own and maintain the target architecture across the microservice estate - service decomposition, ownership boundaries, and inter-service contracts.
• Produce solution design documents and architecture decision records (ADRs) for major features and integrations, and obtain sign-off from Engineering, Product, Risk, and Compliance.
• Design integrations with payment switches, card schemes, core banking, KYC/identity providers, and settlement partners - including message contracts, idempotency, reconciliation, and failure handling.
• Define and enforce standards for transactional integrity across distributed services: outbox/event patterns, idempotency keys, compensating transactions, and reconciliation controls for every flow that touches customer money.
• Set the platform's non-functional baseline - availability and RTO/RPO targets, performance budgets, connection-pool and caching strategy, and observability standards - and review services against it.
• Lead security and regulatory architecture: PCI DSS scope containment, central bank requirements, data protection, encryption and key management, tamper-evidence, and audit trails.
• Chair design reviews and serve as the technical escalation point during major production incidents, including architectural remediation afterwards.
• Evaluate technology choices with a documented cost/benefit and exit-cost position; own the technical debt register and its remediation roadmap.
• Mentor senior and mid-level engineers and raise the design standard across the team.
• Represent the engineering function in vendor, partner, and enterprise architecture forums.

Requirements

Education

• B.Sc. in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related discipline, or demonstrably equivalent experience.

Experience

• Proven experience architecting financial services or payments systems in production - banking, payment switching, wallets, cards, or lending.

Technical Requirements

• Strong distributed systems design: event-driven architecture on Kafka or RabbitMQ, eventual consistency, delivery-guarantee trade-offs, dead-letter and poison-pill handling.
• Data architecture across relational (PostgreSQL/MySQL) and document (MongoDB) stores, with sound reasoning on isolation levels, locking, and schema migration under load.
• Redis for caching, distributed locking, and rate limiting.
• Production Docker and Kubernetes; cloud architecture on AWS or Azure.
• API design and governance - REST, OpenAPI, versioning and backward compatibility, and API security (OAuth2/JWT, mTLS, HMAC request signing).
• Applied knowledge of PCI DSS, regulatory guidelines, data protection law, and audit requirements in a regulated environment.
• Ability to write design documents that non-engineering stakeholders can act on.

Added Advantage

• Prior work on a payment switch, core banking, or card management platform.
• Observability tooling (OpenTelemetry, Prometheus/Grafana, or equivalent) and SLI/SLO definition.
• Fraud, AML, or transaction monitoring system design.
• AWS/Azure Solutions Architect or TOGAF certification.
• Experience running an architecture review board or equivalent governance forum.
