Job Description
As a Web Development Engineer, you will be part of a collaborative engineering team responsible for building, enhancing, and maintaining modern web applications. You will work closely with product managers, designers, and backend engineers to deliver scalable, reliable, and user-friendly experiences across FOX's digital platforms.
You will contribute to the development of high-quality software, participate in technical discussions, and help ensure our applications meet both functional and non-functional requirements.
We’re looking for like-minded people for news-focused initiatives within the Emerging Technologies organization. This role helps extend and evolve digital products that support newsroom workflows, content discovery, and audience engagement.
Key Responsibilities
Develop and Maintain Applications
Build and maintain web applications using modern web technologies such as React, Node.js, TypeScript, Next.js, and related frameworks.
Implement new features and enhancements based on product and business requirements.
Write clean, maintainable, and well-tested code.
Collaboration
Partner with UX/UI designers, product managers, and backend engineers to deliver cohesive user experiences.
Participate in design discussions, sprint planning, and technical reviews.
Code Quality
Participate in peer code reviews and incorporate feedback to maintain engineering standards.
Follow established coding guidelines, development processes, and best practices.
Performance and Reliability
Help identify and resolve performance issues, bugs, and usability concerns.
Contribute to application stability, scalability, and maintainability.
Testing and Debugging
Develop and maintain unit, integration, and end-to-end tests.
Troubleshoot production issues and support ongoing application improvements.
Security and Documentation
Follow security best practices to protect user data and application integrity.
Contribute to technical documentation and knowledge sharing within the team.
What You'll Need
Experience
2-4 years of professional experience building web applications.
Technical Skills
Experience with modern frontend frameworks such as React.
Experience with JavaScript/TypeScript and modern web development practices.
Familiarity with backend technologies such as Node.js and RESTful APIs.
Understanding of responsive design and modern web standards.
Problem Solving
Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills.
Ability to learn new technologies and adapt to evolving requirements.
Version Control
Experience working with Git and collaborative development workflows.
Development Practices
Familiarity with Agile development methodologies and CI/CD processes.
Communication
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to work effectively in a cross-functional team environment.
Education
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent practical experience).
Nice to Have
Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud.
Familiarity with containerization technologies such as Docker.
Experience with testing frameworks such as Jest, Cypress, or Playwright.
Understanding of DevOps and infrastructure concepts.
Interest in UI/UX best practices and accessible web design.
Contributions to open-source projects or personal technical projects.
