GE Vernova is an American energy company created in April 2024 when General Electric split into three, taking the power, wind and electrification businesses. It builds and services gas turbines that generate a substantial share of the world's electricity, onshore and offshore wind turbines, grid equipment including transformers and high-voltage transmission, and nuclear technology through GE Hitachi and its BWRX-300 small modular reactor. Headquartered in Cambridge, Massachusetts, the company sits at the centre of two simultaneous demand shocks: the electrification of transport and industry, and the electricity requirements of large-scale artificial intelligence data centres.

Job Description Summary

The Engineer - Process Engineering is responsible for supporting process engineering activities for boiler and steam power applications, including engineering calculations, technical documentation, process analysis, and execution support for new product introduction (NPI), retrofit, renovation and modernization (R&M), service, and new unit projects. The role works closely with senior engineers and cross-functional teams to deliver quality engineering outputs aligned with project requirements, business goals, and GE Vernova standards.

This role is intended for an engineer with relevant experience in boiler/process engineering or thermal system engineering, who can execute defined work with moderate supervision and is continuing to build technical depth in steam power applications.

Job Description

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Support process engineering activities for boiler, steam cycle, and associated balance of plant systems for new unit, service, retrofit, R&M, and NPI projects.
  • Perform thermal and process engineering calculations related to boiler performance, heat and mass balance, combustion systems, auxiliary systems, and cycle integration.
  • Prepare process documents, data sheets, and technical inputs for assigned ITO and OTR execution.
  • Review customer specifications, plant data, and technical requirements to support preparation of compliant and technically sound engineering solutions.
  • Contribute to inquiry-to-order (ITO) and order-to-remittance (OTR) engineering activities by supporting technical evaluations, proposal inputs, and execution documentation.
  • Coordinate with mechanical engineering, controls, performance engineering, project engineering, sourcing, manufacturing, and site teams for smooth technical execution.
  • Participate in technical reviews and design discussions to support issue resolution, risk identification, and closure of assigned actions.
  • Support engineering teams in identifying opportunities for simplification, standardization, and continuous improvement in tools, calculations, and work processes.
  • Support development and implementation of engineering deliverables for New Product Introduction (NPI) initiatives by contributing process calculations, design inputs, technical documentation, and validation support.
  • Work with cross-functional teams during NPI activities to support product/process maturity, standardization, design improvements, and readiness for execution.
  • Contribute to delivery of engineering work in line with SQDC (Safety, Quality, Delivery, and Cost) expectations by ensuring disciplined execution, right-first-time documentation, on-time completion of assigned tasks, and adherence to approved engineering practices.
  • Contribute to functional initiatives and metrics related to Life Saving Rules, Product Safety embedded in design, On-Time Delivery, Right First Time, Kaizen, productivity, cost-out, quality, and Lean Six Sigma.
  • Use engineering software, digital tools, and approved AI-enabled tools for technical analysis, document preparation, knowledge retrieval, and productivity improvement in line with company policy.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, Chemical Engineering, Thermal Engineering, or equivalent from an accredited university or college.
  • 3+ years of relevant experience in process engineering, boiler engineering, thermal engineering, steam power plant engineering, or related industrial applications.
  • Sound understanding of boiler/process engineering fundamentals, heat and mass balance, combustion concepts, and steam power plant systems.
  • Experience in preparation of engineering calculations, technical reports, and process-related deliverables.
  • Exposure to engineering support for execution projects, retrofit/R&M, service, or product development activities.
  • Familiarity with engineering quality requirements, technical documentation practices, and design standards.
  • Ability to work to committed timelines while maintaining safety, quality, and engineering integrity.
  • Good communication and collaboration skills with ability to work in cross-functional and global teams.

Desired Characteristics

  • Experience in boiler process engineering or steam power applications.
  • Exposure to NPI, product enhancement, validation, or engineering change implementation activities.
  • Familiarity with engineering and analytical tools such as Excel, AutoCAD, thermal performance analysis program, or equivalent tools, as applicable to the role.
  • Understanding of Lean, continuous improvement, and root cause problem-solving methods.
  • Familiarity with AI-assisted productivity tools & software programming like Python/VBA for technical documentation, and analysis.
