GE Vernova is an American energy company created in April 2024 when General Electric split into three, taking the power, wind and electrification businesses. It builds and services gas turbines that generate a substantial share of the world's electricity, onshore and offshore wind turbines, grid equipment including transformers and high-voltage transmission, and nuclear technology through GE Hitachi and its BWRX-300 small modular reactor. Headquartered in Cambridge, Massachusetts, the company sits at the centre of two simultaneous demand shocks: the electrification of transport and industry, and the electricity requirements of large-scale artificial intelligence data centres.

Job Description Summary

GE Vernova Hitachi Nuclear Energy (GVH) is a world-leading provider of nuclear fuel, services, and advanced reactor technologies, including the game-changing BWRX-300 Small Modular Reactor (SMR). We are committed to powering a cleaner, more secure energy future through cutting-edge nuclear innovation.

As a Lead Human Factors Engineer (HFE), you will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of nuclear energy. In this high-impact technical role, you will apply human-centered design principles to optimize operator performance, prevent human error, and ensure the safe, reliable operation, maintenance, and testing of both existing nuclear fleets and next-generation advanced reactors. Be part of a mission-critical team that deeply values the science of human factors engineering!

Job Description

  • Human-System Interface (HSI) & V&V: Lead the review, testing, evaluation, verification, and validation of advanced HSIs using state-of-the-art simulators, operating modes, and emergency procedures.
  • Procedure & Training Integration: Collaborate on the development and review of normal, abnormal, and emergency operating procedures (EOPs), alarm response procedures, surveillance protocols, and operator training programs.
  • Reliability & Maintainability Integration: Provide critical plant operations and human-performance input to enhance system reliability, availability, and maintainability (RAM).
  • Regulatory & Stakeholder Engagement: Act as a key technical interface with internal teams, external customers, suppliers, global partners, and regulatory/licensing authorities (e.g., NRC) on complex HFE matters.
  • Documentation & Governance: Deliver high-quality engineering documentation, technical reports, and design descriptions on-time, adhering to strict contract requirements, business procedures, and nuclear regulatory standards.
  • Safety Culture & Integrity: Champion a rigorous human-performance and nuclear safety culture, upholding the highest standards of personal and professional integrity.

Required Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor of Science Degree in Human Factors Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Cognitive Psychology, or a related technical discipline from an accredited college or university.
