Senior Engineer - HVDC Control System, Platform & Tools

Job Description Summary

GE Vernova is looking for an experienced Senior Engineer - HVDC Control System, Platform & Tools to join our HVDC NPI team. This senior role sits at the heart of next-generation R&D and new product introduction, driving innovation across embedded systems, software platforms, industrial communication technologies, and network and cyber architectures. You will provide technical authority, lead complex engineering initiatives, and support the development of the tools and platforms that underpin future HVDC systems.

Job Description

Key Responsibilities

• Provide technical authority to NPI development teams working across embedded software, IEC-61850 PC-based applications, full stack web applications, and network and cyber architecture
• Participate in design reviews for components, subassemblies, and key engineering deliverables during tendering and contract execution
• Identify, develop, evaluate, and introduce engineering solutions that support business needs and market-winning proposals
• Provide technical direction to projects during execution and support product, supplier, manufacturing, and field issue resolution
• Guide teams on specification, design, architecture, testing, user documentation, and engineering best practice
• Develop design practices, design guides, and support Design FMEAs, RCA, 5-Why, and 8-D activities as part of NPI development
• Represent GE Vernova externally in conferences, industry bodies, and academic collaborations, and provide technical guidance in customer or supplier engagements where required
• Support structured technical training, mentoring, lessons learned, and capability development across the HVDC organisation
• Work closely with ITO, OTR, Technology, and Consulting Engineers to strengthen design quality, competency frameworks, and cross-functional collaboration

Required Qualifications and Experience

• Bachelor of Science in Engineering, Physics, Mathematics, Computer Science, or a related discipline
• Strong hands-on experience in embedded software, desktop applications, full stack web applications, communication systems, or cybersecurity-related technologies
• Expert knowledge of software development processes, including Agile development methodology
• Experience acting as technical lead for NPI development programmes
• Strong understanding of operating systems, including real-time operating systems such as VxWorks, RT Linux, or QNX, and desktop operating systems such as Linux, Unix, or Windows
• Working knowledge of industrial protocols such as IEC-61850, IEC-104, DNP3, and Modbus
• Very good understanding of the ISO OSI model and communication layers
• Expert knowledge of processor and hardware technologies such as general-purpose processors, DSPs, FPGAs, and SoCs
• Sound knowledge of computing technologies and backplanes such as PCIe, VPX, and SOSA
• Good understanding of network and cyber architectures within industrial automation control systems

Preferred Qualifications

• Strong interpersonal, communication, and leadership skills
• Problem analysis and resolution capability
• Ability to maintain engineering integrity in demanding situations
• Lean experience
• Knowledge of HVDC converter operation theory and associated power electronics
• Knowledge of HVDC power system operations and control and protection theory
• Development experience using MATLAB/Simulink
• Hands-on experience with IEC-61850 SCT/ICT tools and data model development
• Awareness of IEC-62443 cybersecurity standards
