Job Description:

GDIT is looking for a Unix and Linux Team Lead to join our National Institutes of Health (NIH) CIT Hosting and Storage Services Program.

We are seeking a forward-thinking technical leader who can inspire and develop teams while ensuring the reliable delivery of high-quality technology services. Our ideal candidate combines strong people leadership with technical insight and operational discipline, supported by experience and expertise aligned with the team’s portfolio of supporting compliant Unix and Linux systems. This leader will provide clear direction and accountability for day-to-day operations and maintenance, service delivery, and project execution, while applying their technical understanding to guide decisions and address complex challenges. They will foster a culture of collaboration, accountability, continuous improvement, and innovation; empower team members to grow and succeed; and work closely with customers and stakeholders to deliver meaningful results. The successful candidate will balance operational excellence with modernization, ensuring the team delivers reliably today while continuously improving services and capabilities for the future.

This role will require you to obtain and maintain a Public Trust and will require you to provide onsite fingerprinting at a designated facility. This investigation may review personal and criminal behavior, financial conduct, foreign influence, as well as other adjudications.

Responsibilities:

· Provide day-to-day oversight for your team by delegating and prioritizing task execution, resolving roadblocks, and ensuring execution is efficient and timely for the delivery of all Unix and Linux services.

· In partnership with federal and program leadership, be a subject matter expert and oversee your team’s service catalog; to include identifying customer demands, owning and developing the technical strategy and vision, and rallying your team to turn the vision into reality.

· Work closely with Project Managers/Scrum Masters to ensure transparent communications on project timelines, project execution, resource requirements, risk management, and status reporting. Occasionally step into a project manager role for your team’s strategic projects based on need.

· Drive innovation and incorporate continuous improvement activities into your team’s execution to deliver new services and new ways of working to keep pace with future customer demands.

· Oversee personnel management including staff recruitment, hiring, performance management, training, and mentoring for all team members.

· Provide oversight for incidents, coordinating with resolution parties and establishing effective communication between stakeholders during and after closure of the incident to include after-action reporting.

Required Qualifications:

· BS/BA and 6+ years of experience, or equivalent experience, in an IT-related discipline.

· Experience overseeing a portfolio of technology services and leading a technical team’s day-to-day execution, including operations and maintenance, service delivery, and project activities.

· People management experience, including recruiting, hiring, performance management, professional development, training, and mentoring a team of engineers.

· Experience leading technical projects and initiatives from planning through successful delivery.

Required Skillsets and Experience

· Broad hands-on experience and technical knowledge across infrastructure technologies, including Unix and Linux variants and associated supporting infrastructure services such as configuration management to include experience designing, operating, troubleshooting, and optimizing complex enterprise environments.

· Experience modernizing a team’s technology services and delivery practices to improve efficiency, accelerate delivery, enhance customer experience, and reduce manual effort through standardization, automation, and emerging technologies such as AI.

· Experience applying Agile and project management practices to manage priorities and backlogs, facilitate Scrum or similar delivery processes, and drive technical initiatives through completion.

· Working knowledge of ITIL principles and practices, including incident, problem, service request, change, and service level management.

· Ability to analyze complex technical and operational issues, provide technical guidance, and lead teams through problem resolution.

· Strong customer and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to translate technical issues, risks, and recommendations for both technical and non-technical audiences.

Preferred Qualifications

· Relevant industry certifications in RHEL, Solaris, Unix, cloud technologies, ITIL, Agile, or project management.

· Experience supporting technology services within a federal government, healthcare, or similarly regulated environment.
