Generali is an insurance and asset management group headquartered in Trieste, Italy, whose parent company Assicurazioni Generali is one of the largest insurers in Europe. Established in 1831, the group has over 88,000 employees and 163,000 advisors serving about 75 million customers, with major operations in Italy, France, Germany, Central and Eastern Europe and Asia. It hires IT solution and application architects, data and AI specialists, audit managers, anti financial crime analysts, legal counsel, people business partners and investment and sustainability interns, mainly in Milan and Trieste.

OneFinance 2026 is a Group-level Finance Transformation Program across 30+ Countries within the Generali Group, delivered by GOSP (the Group IT company) in partnership with leading consulting and technology firms. The program is building a harmonized Finance platform based on a single group template: local subledger systems feed a central Data Platform that harmonizes data into a common data model, which in turn feeds the Group ERP, integrated with procurement, consolidation, and regulatory compliance processes.

With the first country live, further waves in active delivery, and additional countries to follow, the program must deliver at pace. This means that, for reasons of time, architecture, or cost, some solutions go to production in a sub-optimal form and must be remediated afterwards. Governing this technical debt - making it visible, prioritized, and resolved before it becomes operational risk - and progressively decommissioning legacy local systems are strategic priorities for the program, with high visibility towards Group and Local Business Unit senior management.

We are looking for a senior Technical Product Owner to own the technical debt backlog of OneFinance 2026 end-to-end: identify sub-optimal solutions introduced at each country go-live, design the target remediation across the whole architecture, plan the resources and timeline needed, and drive delivery to closure. In parallel, you will engage with the Countries to shape and drive the decommissioning of local legacy systems, building the business cases that support those decisions.

The role is transversal by nature and requires strong architectural skills: it spans the full landscape - local subledger integrations, the central Data Platform, the Group ERP template, and satellite systems (technologies such as SAP S/4HANA, BTP, Azure Data Platform, Ivalua, and Tagetik, by way of example). The profile typically comes from solution or enterprise architecture, but with a strong delivery and project management imprint: you can define the technically right solution and estimate, plan, and hit the dates. You will lead a squad, coordinate external partners, and operate in a fast-moving, complex, international context, with direct exposure to senior management of the Group and of the Local Business Units, negotiating scope and priorities with country stakeholders and vendors.

Key responsibilities of the role will include:

  • Technical Debt Ownership: Build and own the program-level technical debt register across all go-lives. Classify each item by operational risk, architectural impact, and cost; define the remediation roadmap and secure its prioritization with the IT Program Director and workstream leads.
  • Architecture & Cross-Platform Solutioning: Act as the architectural reference for remediation: design target-state solutions for items delivered as tactical workarounds across integration layers, data platform, ERP template, and satellite systems. Ensure solutions are coherent with the overall program architecture, integration patterns, and group template. Challenge sub-optimal designs proposed under time pressure, assess downstream impact before they reach production, and contribute to the evolution of the target architecture.
  • Local Systems Decommissioning & Business Case Development: Engage Country IT and Finance stakeholders to define the decommissioning roadmap of local legacy systems once migrated to the group platform. Develop and present business cases (cost savings, risk reduction, simplification, dependencies), align them with Local BU senior management, and track execution to closure.
  • Backlog & Delivery Management: Translate remediation and decommissioning items into a prioritized, estimated backlog. Define resources required per deliverable, plan releases alongside parallel country rollouts, and track delivery to time and quality. Ensure fixes do not regress live countries.
  • Squad Leadership & Partner Coordination: Functionally lead a squad of internal resources and coordinate external consultants and technology partners working on the backlog. Set standards, assign ownership, manage capacity, and build an internal capability over time. Act as the internal counterpart governing vendor deliverables (design quality, estimates, fixes).
  • Stakeholder Management & Negotiation: Negotiate remediation and decommissioning scope, timing, and acceptance with country stakeholders, business operations, functional workstreams, and system integrators. Make technical trade-offs transparent and decision-ready for Group and Local BU senior management.
  • Operational Risk & Go-Live Support: Contribute to go/no-go assessments by surfacing known debt accepted for each cutover, with mitigation and committed remediation dates. Partner with Test Management and Operations to monitor post-go-live stability.
  • Standards & Lessons Learned: Feed recurring debt patterns back into architecture standards, the group template, and the program quality framework to reduce debt creation in subsequent waves.
  • 8 to 10 years of experience in IT, with a solid background in solution or enterprise architecture evolved into technical product ownership or technical delivery leadership.
  • Strong, transversal architecture skills: proven ability to design end-to-end solutions spanning ERP, data platforms, integration layers, and satellite applications; to define and enforce integration patterns and data model harmonization; to assess the architectural and operational impact of workarounds; and to challenge technical teams and vendors on design quality.
  • Proven track record of owning and remediating technical debt or post-go-live stabilization in large, integration-heavy transformation programs (multi-country rollouts, not maintenance only).
  • Experience in application rationalization and legacy decommissioning, including business case development (cost/benefit, risk, dependencies) and presentation to senior stakeholders.
  • Strong project/delivery management imprint: estimation of effort and resources per deliverable, release planning, tracking to committed dates.
  • Experience governing external system integrators and consulting partners, with the seniority and autonomy to negotiate with country stakeholders and vendors.
  • Finance domain sensitivity: understanding of accounting, closing, and reporting processes sufficient to assess business impact of technical choices.
  • Excellent stakeholder management: able to present technical status, risks, and trade-offs clearly to senior IT and business audiences at Group and Local BU level. Structured, to-the-point, decision-oriented communication style.
  • Ownership mindset and comfort operating in a fast-moving, complex, consultancy-like environment.
  • Proven ability to work with distributed, cross-functional, multicultural teams.
  • English at C1 level or above (working language of the program); Italian required.

Nice to Have:

  • Hands-on knowledge of one or more of the technologies in scope, such as SAP S/4HANA (FI, CO, MM) and BTP, Azure data platforms and Azure DevOps, Ivalua, or Tagetik.
  • Exposure to insurance or financial services Finance processes and related regulatory requirements.
  • Enterprise architecture (e.g. TOGAF) or Agile/SAFe product ownership certification.

Education:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or a technical discipline, or equivalent professional experience.
