Lead Research Scientist – AI and Edge Platforms for Hearing Aids

We are looking for a Lead Research Scientist to connect AI algorithms, edge processing and hardware-platform development.

In the role of Lead Research Scientist you will align AI research, signal-processing algorithms and hardware development to maximise the potential of current platforms and help define the capabilities needed for future hearing-aid platforms.

The Team you will be part of:

You will join a research and development environment focused on advancing intelligent hearing technologies for people with hearing loss. Working across research, algorithms, platforms and hardware, the team translates emerging technology into solutions that support real-life communication needs.

Your contribution is appreciated, and you will:

• Guide the technical alignment between AI research, audio-processing algorithms and hearing-aid processing platforms
• Assess emerging AI methods and translate their implications into platform requirements, architecture choices and development priorities
• Identify opportunities to maximise algorithm performance, efficiency and functionality on current hearing-aid platforms
• Partner with IC design and hardware-development teams to help shape future processing platforms
• Define and communicate requirements for computational capability, memory, power consumption, data movement, latency and programmability
• Guide explorations of efficient edge AI, including algorithm-hardware co-optimisation and practical deployment strategies
• Build collaboration across research, algorithm, platform and hardware disciplines, and contribute clear technical recommendations to GN’s long-term technology roadmap

To perform well in the role, we imagine that you:

• Hold a PhD in machine learning, signal processing, embedded systems, electrical engineering, computer science or a related field
• Bring a deep understanding of the relationship between AI algorithms, efficient inference and resource-constrained hardware platforms
• Have experience collaborating across algorithm, software, system architecture and hardware or IC-development disciplines
• Can translate complex technical opportunities into clear platform requirements, trade-offs and strategic recommendations
• Bring curiosity, collaborative technical leadership and the ability to challenge established assumptions constructively; experience with audio or speech processing, low-power edge computing, hardware-aware AI, real-time embedded systems, hearing-aid technology, IC design, platform architecture, scientific publishing or intellectual-property development is beneficial
