PROFESSIONAL STRUCTURAL ENGINEER (PR ENG) | CAPE TOWN

An exciting opportunity is available for an experienced Professional Structural Engineer (Pr.Eng) to join an engineering consulting team in Cape Town.

This position is suited to a technically strong engineer with 8+ years of structural engineering experience, capable of leading structural design projects, providing technical guidance and delivering safe, practical and cost-effective engineering solutions.

The successful candidate will have a strong understanding of structural analysis and design, experience across a range of building structures, and the ability to manage technical deliverables while working closely with clients and multidisciplinary project teams.

Minimum Requirements

• BEng or BSc Engineering degree in Civil Engineering, specializing in Structural Engineering.
• Professional registration with ECSA as a Pr.Eng is essential.
• 8+ years of relevant structural engineering experience within a consulting environment.
• Proven experience in the analysis and design of reinforced concrete and structural steel buildings.
• Experience with foundations, retaining structures and complex structural systems.
• Strong understanding of applicable South African National Standards (SANS), structural design codes and relevant building regulations.
• Experience preparing structural calculations, design reports, technical specifications and construction drawings.
• Proficiency in structural engineering software such as Prokon, Tekla Structural Designer, ETABS, Robot Structural Analysis or SAP2000.
• Experience with AutoCAD and/or Revit Structure will be advantageous.
• Strong technical leadership, project coordination and client communication skills.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and undertake structural analysis and design for building and infrastructure projects.
• Design reinforced concrete, structural steel and other structural systems in accordance with applicable engineering standards.
• Prepare and review structural calculations, drawings, specifications and technical reports.
• Assess structural integrity, design feasibility and constructability while developing efficient engineering solutions.
• Coordinate structural designs with architectural, civil and building services disciplines.
• Review technical drawings, design documentation and construction submissions to ensure accuracy and compliance.
• Conduct site inspections and provide technical guidance during construction.
• Respond to contractor queries, assess design changes and resolve structural engineering challenges.
• Manage technical deliverables, project deadlines, design quality and allocated budgets.
• Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers and engineering technologists.
• Liaise with clients, contractors, architects and other consultants throughout the project lifecycle.
• Contribute to project proposals, technical submissions and client relationship development.
