Research Scientist, Quantum Error Correction

Job Description

Job Title: Research Scientist, Quantum Error Correction, Quantum AI. Location: Goleta, CA, USA; Los Angeles, CA, USA

Responsibilities:

• Develop new quantum error correction codes with high encoding rates, high distance, or favorable hardware layouts.
• Research LDPC codes and yoked encoding schemes for fault-tolerant quantum computing.
• Adapt quantum error correction circuits to hardware connectivity constraints.
• Develop and analyze fault-tolerant circuits for syndrome measurement and logical operations.
• Develop QEC schemes for modular quantum architectures;
• Address challenges involving entangling links between chips that may be slower or less reliable than on-chip gates.
• Analyze hardware tradeoffs related to connectivity.
• Develop higher-accuracy decoding algorithms for high-connectivity codes, including LDPC codes.
• Simulate quantum codes under different noise models and evaluate their performance.
• Develop quantum error correction approaches specifically for superconducting qubits and high-connectivity platforms.
• Share research findings through publications and contributions to the wider quantum research community.
• Collaborate with research programs at partner universities and technical institutes globally;
• Contribute to Google's broader mission of developing large-scale, fault-tolerant quantum computers capable of complex error-corrected computations.

Qualifications:

• PhD in a quantum computing-related field, such as Mathematics, Physics, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.
• Research publication experience in quantum error correction.

Preferred:

• At least 1 year of experience owning and initiating research agendas.

Benefits and Compensation:

• Salary range: $147,000 to $210,000 USD per year.
• 15% target bonus.
