Job Description

Job Title: Senior Staff Software Engineer, Platforms Security. Location: Sunnyvale, CA, USA

Responsibilities:

• Drive the technical strategy for hardware security across Google's global infrastructure.

• Lead the transition to open source Roots of Trust platforms, including Caliptra and OpenTitan, while advancing Post-Quantum Cryptography readiness.

• Co-design secure hardware architectures with engineering teams and deploy software, firmware, and utilities for custom security chips, BIOS, and operating system kernels;

• Connect bare-metal and RTOS systems using Rust, C, SPI, and I2C with fleet-wide cryptographic services, including certificate authority operations, attestation, and credential binding.

• Represent Google within the hardware security community and contribute to standards and implementations such as OpenTitan, Caliptra, and TPM.

• Guide distributed engineering teams through complex projects from design to deployment;

• Improve engineering practices through modern CI/CD pipelines, automated hardware-in-the-loop testing, and cross-functional collaboration.

• Mentor junior and mid-level engineers while maintaining high engineering standards.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.

• 8 years of experience in software development.

• 7 years of experience working with embedded operating systems.

• 5 years of experience designing software architectures and launching software products.

• Experience with embedded systems, security standards, and programming in C, C++, and Rust.

Preferred:

• Master's degree or PhD in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field.

• 8 years of experience with data structures and algorithms.

• 5 years of experience leading technical teams and setting engineering direction;

• 3 years of experience working across cross-functional or cross-business projects.

• Experience with cryptographic algorithms and hardware design.

Benefits and Compensation:

• Base salary: $262,000 to $364,000 USD per year.

• Target annual bonus: 25%.
