About the Role
The Embedded Software team is looking for a Senior/Staff Graphics Engineer to own the graphics stack behind Hark's device display. You will share the ownership of kernel GPU driver and userspace graphics stacks, building the rendering engine and the UI framework that everything else on the product is drawn with, on resource constrained platforms with novel form factors.
This is the layer underneath the product experience. Design and our UX engineers define what the interface does; you define the capabilities of the interface.
Responsibilities
- Own Display & Graphics stack: Design, develop, and maintain the display pipeline across different embedded platforms
- Work directly with Design and with the UX engineers to get real designs onto the device at full fidelity.
- Performance Optimization: Analyze and optimize the graphics pipeline to ensure high performance, low latency, and efficient memory bandwidth across different graphics pipelines and architectures
- Establish the practices for graphics development, testing, performance regression, and CI.
Requirements
- 7+ years of industry experience in graphics or UI engineering.
- Deep hands-on experience with Vulkan and OpenGL ES, including shader authoring (GLSL/SPIR-V) and render pipeline design.
- Strong experience with vector graphics rendering and animation.
- Proven track record on embedded or resource-constrained systems: limited RAM, limited GPU, real thermal envelope.
- Solid C++ and familiarity with Linux userspace development.
- Experience owning a UI framework or rendering engine that other engineers built on top of.
- Strong cross-functional communication.
Bonus Qualifications
- Familiarity with low level display HW including Serializer/Deserializer, video links and display interfaces
- Familiarity with display virtualization
- Experience with both retained-mode and immediate-mode rendering frameworks..
- SVG or other vector formats and their GPU-accelerated rendering.
- Understanding of display hardware interfaces (MIPI DSI, HDMI) and display driver integration on embedded Linux.
- Game engine experience (Unreal, Unity).
- Shipped a custom system-level UI framework or graphics stack on a commercial device.
Compensation
The US base salary range for this full-time position is between $150,000 - $350,000 annually.
The pay offered for this position may vary based on several individual factors, including job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package may also include additional components/benefits depending on the specific role. This information will be shared if an employment offer is extended.
