Data Engineer / Database Engineer (DBA)
RDBMS & NoSQL Platforms - Must-Have and Nice-to-Have Skills
Must-Have Skills
- Enterprise database engineering: Strong hands-on database engineering and DBA fundamentals in large-scale, highly available, business-critical environments.
- Relational databases: Strong production experience with Oracle and PostgreSQL, including installation, configuration, administration, schema management, DDL deployment, upgrades, performance tuning, replication, and troubleshooting.
- NoSQL databases: Hands-on experience with at least one of Cassandra, MongoDB, or Couchbase, including clustering, replication, partitioning or sharding, consistency models, node management, capacity planning, and failure recovery.
- Performance optimization: Strong knowledge of query optimization, indexing, execution plans, transactions, locking and concurrency, connection management, storage, capacity, and replication performance.
- Automation and scripting: Experience automating database provisioning, configuration, deployment, and lifecycle activities using Ansible, Terraform, Python, and/or shell scripting.
- DevOps practices: Experience with Infrastructure as Code, configuration management, Git, CI/CD pipelines, automated release processes, and reusable engineering patterns.
- High availability and disaster recovery: Experience implementing resilience, replication, clustering, recovery objectives, backup, restore, and point-in-time recovery strategies.
- Database security: Experience with authentication, authorization, role-based access control, encryption, certificates, secrets management, vulnerability remediation, and security patching.
- Monitoring and observability: Ability to monitor database availability, health, performance, and capacity and implement effective alerting and observability.
- Production engineering: Strong troubleshooting skills across database, application, and infrastructure layers, including incident management, root-cause analysis, controlled production changes, risk assessment, and rollback planning.
- Application and architecture collaboration: Ability to work with application teams, Data Architects, infrastructure engineers, security teams, and production-support teams to implement new solutions aligned with agreed data models and standards.
- Engineering documentation: Ability to create database standards, operational procedures, runbooks, technical documentation, and platform roadmaps.
- Communication and ownership: Excellent written and verbal English, analytical problem-solving, clear communication of technical risks, independent delivery, and a strong service-reliability mindset.
- Work model: Ability to work in a hybrid arrangement with at least three office days per week and participate in production-support or on-call coverage when required.
