Job Summary
Cloud & Application Modernization Lead
Role Summary
Lead end-to-end application modernization and cloud migration initiatives, with a primary focus on migrating enterprise applications from on-premises environments to AWS. The role will drive application assessment, modernization strategy, target architecture, migration execution, and coordination across technical teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead application and infrastructure assessments to determine appropriate modernization strategies such as rehost, replatform, refactor, retire, retain, or replace.
- Define modernization roadmaps, migration waves, technical dependencies, and migration readiness.
- Lead migration of enterprise applications and workloads to AWS.
- Review Java/enterprise application architecture and identify refactoring, API, containerization, and cloud-native modernization opportunities.
- Coordinate across Cloud Architects, Application/Java SMEs, Tools SMEs, Integration SMEs, DevOps, Infrastructure, Security, and Testing teams.
- Develop and govern migration plans covering infrastructure, applications, integrations, data, testing, cutover, rollback, and stabilization.
- Drive CI/CD, Infrastructure as Code (IaC), automation, and DevOps practices to improve migration efficiency and repeatability.
- Manage application dependencies, APIs, databases, networking, authentication, and external integrations.
- Ensure cloud solutions meet architecture, security, scalability, resilience, and operational requirements.
- Manage technical risks, blockers, dependencies, design decisions, and escalations.
- Lead post-migration stabilization, performance monitoring, optimization, and transition to operations.
Required Skills & Qualifications
- Strong experience in AWS cloud migration and application modernization.
- Strong understanding of Java/J2EE, Spring/Spring Boot, REST APIs, microservices, databases, and enterprise application architecture.
- Knowledge of key AWS services such as EC2, S3, RDS, VPC, IAM, CloudWatch, Lambda, ECS/EKS, and load balancing.
- Experience with Docker, Kubernetes, CI/CD, Terraform/CloudFormation, and DevOps practices.
- Experience with application discovery, dependency assessment, migration planning, cutover, and production stabilization.
- Strong technical leadership, stakeholder management, problem-solving, and cross-team coordination skills.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, IT, or a related discipline.
- AWS architecture/professional certification preferred.
