Position Overview:

As we expand, we're looking for a Mechanical Engineer for Summer 2027. As an intern you will gain hands-on experience with our custom hardware products. You can expect to gain meaningful technical experience while helping us accelerate our product development, production, and deployment of our state-of-the-art sensor network.

Location: This position is onsite in the Syracuse, NY office.

As a Mechanical Engineering Intern, you will…

• Evaluate next generation hardware, analyze results and make recommendations to the design team.
• Collaborate across engineering disciplines to design and develop advanced sensor products.
• Work in a motivated, cross-disciplinary team passionate about solving challenging problems and delivering results.
• Receive mentorship, guidance, and constructive feedback from experienced engineers.

Responsibilities:

• Use 3D solid modeling to design mechanical solutions for tightly controlled enclosures and fixtures
• Assist with or perform structural, thermal, and other failure analyses to meet environmental and structural requirements
• Optimize designs for feasibility, manufacturability, cost, thermal performance, strength-weight efficiency, and ease of assembly
• Create and maintain cable assemblies/harnesses and other peripheral interface designs
• Solve design challenges using a variety of materials and fabrication methods including plastics, composites, metals, 3D-printing, machining, etc.
• Define, maintain, and communicate requirements to 3rd-party fabrication houses and work closely with them through component and product delivery
• Perform design verification and integration of new components and support field testing
• Author assembly instructions and drawings in support of in-house production
• Aid with the management of bills of material (BOM) and other production and fabrication artifacts
• Review hardware parts for obsolescence and identify suitable replacements
• Assist with or provide information in support of project planning, execution, and oversight

Required Qualifications:

• Enrolled in an accredited degree program majoring in Mechanical Engineering.
• Completed Sophomore year or greater by Summer 2027.
• A minimum grade point average of 3.4. Recent transcript is required with application (unofficial transcripts are acceptable)
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and overcome technical challenges through teamwork and collaboration.
• Strong desire to learn and great communication skills.
• Some experience using 3D CAD modeling tools such as SolidWorks

Hourly Rate Range: The hourly rate range for this position is estimated at $23 to $26 per hour. Please note that the salary information is a general guideline only. Hidden Level considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's work experience, education/ training, key skills as well as market and business considerations when extending an offer.
